Every sane, retail employee has a love-hate relationship with their job. As a retail employee myself, it's mainly a hate relationship. My manager and coworkers are the only reason, most of the time, that I don't quit or strangle someone. (I had to put that so my manager won't fire me). Back to the customers, sometimes they're absolutely amazing, and those stories will be included, other times I swear they're out to get me. Retail employees see some of the best and worst in people, these are their stories. DUN DUN. (Law and order reference because I need to emphasize how horrible retail is).
1. The flirt.
"Once I was working and my coworker had this slightly weird customer. He kept looking at me but he wasn't my customer so I kind of ignored him. Then as he was leaving he walks up to me and very creepily says goodbye sweetheart."
- Anon
2. The "Mentor."
"I recently had a customer not even talk to me about shoes, which is what I sell, he just kept telling me I was gorgeous and he was going to 'wine and dine' me and get me into the medical program at an Ivy Leauge school. I mean thanks but no thanks."
- @katymoe_ (Me!)
3. The one who just wants her number.
"I don't know if this is crazy but I've had a lot of people ask for my number at work."
- Anon
(P.S. don't ask people out in a place where they'll feel scared to say no).
4. The one where she cried.
"This happened on two separate occasions. Once a guy gave me $100 to buy school books and I sobbed because it was so sweet. Another time a woman gave me $20 for being so helpful!"
- Anon
5. The customer who thought she was a joke.
"I just had a customer blow up on me because I said his monthly car payment would be $400. For a truck. He isn't going to do better. He said I should be a comedian because that price made him laugh."
- @lexxrioo
6. The guy who definitely lifts bro.
"He started doing push-ups, while we were talking. He just took his shirt off and did push-ups. He came back the next day and did it again. I just wanted to sell him a car."
- Justin
7. The customers who want more discounts.
"I wouldn't consider this crazy but customers always ask what the price is and if they can get any more of a discount."
- Zach
8. The public urination.
"I had a customer just start peeing. On the ground, outside, while I was talking to her. PEEING."
- Vinnie
9. The Grabber.
"I had a guy grab my wrist and drag me around the store, I worked at. I've had other touchy people but he really creeped me out."
- Anon
10. The things my boss has seen.
"So I asked my boss what his worst retail stories were and he sent back this: 'Dead employee in the bathroom, dead guy in the dumpster, thief taking off shoes and running away barefoot, sick employee throwing up in deep fryer, lady pretending to be handicapped and pretending the endcap fell on her (video showed her running into it 5 times on purpose). Need more?'"
