10 Odd Things To Be Thankful For

IThe holidays are upon us, and the infamous question is being asked. "What are you thankful for?". There are a million things to be thankful for, yet we all tend to answer with "family" or "friends". So here are a few things outside of the box. Things we should always be thankful for, not just during Thanksgiving.

1.) The Dollar Menu

The dollar menu saves lives, not literally, but it's fairly close. Weekly trips to Taco Bell and McDonald's are a necessity for any college student. The dollar menu provides us with the cheap junk food we need for the all nighter we are coming upon.

2.) Colors

Honestly though, how would life be without color? There are so many shades and hues of every color that we take for granted on a daily basis. All of the colors that make up the world, and even chartreuse, give light and wonder to our everyday surroundings. Without color the world would be 50 shades of gray and that's gross.

3.) Soap

We should be thankful for soap, perfume, lotion, and all things that smell heavenly. Although we may have a migraine after leaving Bath and Body Works because of all the strong scents, these things get rid of body odor and for that we should be forever grateful!

4.) Trees

Personally, I'm allergic to trees, but they give us oxygen so it evens out. They have beautiful colors in the fall to be thankful for and some bear fruit or pretty flowers in the spring. Sometimes we climb trees and sometimes we chop them down. The Giving Tree by Shel Silverstein pretty much sums up reasons to be thankful for trees.

5.) Polite People

This sounds simple and odd, but it truly is the little things. I am so appreciative for people that hold the door open when I am have my hands full and hearing "bless you" after a sneeze. It does not go unnoticed, bless you!

6.) Spell Check

Spell Check is a best friend when it comes to writing papers and emails. Spell Check is such a great tool for the little typos you miss. Auto correct, on the other hand, not so much. Auto correct does not fix my messages, it makes them confusing and weird.

7.) Fuzzy Socks

You think they are just a pair of socks, but no. Fuzzy socks are magical and they keep your feet warm and cozy. Also, they're like a dollar. It does not take a lot of money to get happiness, fuzzy socks will suffice.

8.) Google

we can have most questions answered within seconds of typing it into Google and that gets overlooked so often. there are so many things we can use Google for; directions, shopping, homework help, social media, figuring out who that actor is in the movie you are watching, and basically anything you can think of.

9.) Funny Memories

If nothing else you can always be thankful for the funny stories that you have from the past. Memories can always bring a smile to your face and those you shared it with.

10.) Really Amusing GIF's

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
