It is about that time of the year again….to start thinking about what our New Year’s Resolutions will be. Sometimes, we find ourselves making these New Year’s Resolutions and not sticking with them or giving up hope mid-year. Sometimes people will look at us strangely when we tell them our New Year’s Resolutions because they think that we will not stick to them. Maybe some of us will not come up with a New Year’s Resolution because we want to see how the year will go and make resolutions along the way. Either is fine, and I encourage you to stick with whichever option with confidence and live your life to the fullest. However, if we are stuck on what our resolutions will be, here are some awesome ideas:
1. Stop procrastinating
I have told myself a multitude of times that I will work on procrastinating. It’s so hard not to. However, as the new semester approaches, I want to work on not procrastinating as much and working on assignments way before the due date. This resolution may seem far-fetched, but everyone can do it with the right mind set and attitude. Also, this resolution does not only apply to school-related assignments, it can be anything!
2. Go to the gym
Every year, going to the gym is one of the biggest New Year’s Resolutions. People want to stay fit as the summer is quickly approaching. YOU CAN DO IT! If you decide you want to go to the gym, you most definitely can. Do not get up on your hopes and dreams & do not forget to reward yourself every once in a while.
3. Start eating healthy
This is also a common resolution as the new year approaches. Typically, going to the gym and starting to eat healthy go together. However, if you have a cheat day(s), do not beat yourself up. You deserve it.
4. Spend more time with loved ones
I cannot stress how important this resolution is, especially to me. I have lost a lot of loved ones in the past and even some more recently. Family has always been so important to me, but I want to spend even more time with loved ones. Time is precious and valuable.
5. Start saving money rather than spending it
I know for a fact, that I will definitely be working on this resolution for this upcoming year. I have a problem spending money on items that I do not necessarily need. As a college student and young adult, I have started to realize the importance of saving money the older I get. Instead of spending $20 bucks on that dress at the mall, I need to work on saving the $20 just in case I need it for an emergency of some sort. Of course, treat yo’ self every once in a while.
6. Set goals and work at achieving them
This is another IMPORTANT resolution. No matter what goals you set, goals are important in general. Whether it is to save money, stop procrastinating, etc. This year I have set a goal for myself to do the best I can do academically and apply to the Nursing School in the spring. This goal will continue into the new year as well. Setting goals is important, because it gives you confidence and reassurance.
7. Read more
I really enjoy to read when it is for leisure. The older I get, the more I find myself slowly moving away from reading books to purely just reading for academic purposes. Over the breaks, especially over summer break, I really want to find a couple of good books and read them.
8. Travel the world
I have been passionate about traveling the world for quite a while now. Not this year, but in the future, I would love the opportunity to be able to travel the world and see different cultures.
9. Volunteer more
I have always had a passion and overwhelming joy to volunteer. In the past, I have volunteered with Cub Scouts, the local nursing home, conducted Toy Drives for the Children’s Hospital around the holidays, volunteered at the Children’s Museum of Richmond, etc. Volunteering makes me happy and I want to continue to volunteer the older I get as well.
10. Be kind to one another
One of my favorite songs is “Humble and Kind” by Tim McGraw. The lyrics are so powerful and it inspires me to continue to be kind, grateful, appreciative, etc. There is so much to be grateful to God for.
As 2017 is in less than a month, I encourage you to think of if you want to make a resolution or not. If you decide to make a resolution, I have complete faith and confidence that you can keep it. On the other hand, if you decide not to make a resolution, I fully support that. Happy Holidays!
