At my grandfather's 80th birthday celebration, my 12-year-old cousin looked at me in confusion and goes, "Vanessa, what's Myspace?"
*glass shattering*
What? Are you kidding? You don't know what Myspace is!?!?
For all you out there who are not Millennials, you never knew the importance of the role Myspace played. I distinctly remember scrolling on the desktop computer in my living room eating Bugles and asking my friends if I could "own" their profile pictures. Myspace is where you made friends, friendships were broken, where you told crush your crush you liked them and talked to cute boys from bands that were so awful they're still in the garage.
Now, for all my fellow Millennial's, here's a list of ten Myspace songs I know graced your profile with its presence:
1. " Curse of Curves" by Cute Is What We Aim For
After the first line, this song gets a bit redundant, but it made you feel a little bit risqué and you loved it anyway.
2." Fergalicious" by Fergie
"Hit it Fergie!" Even though the rest of the song is mediocre at best after Fergie raps and spells, you made sure you were up in the gym working on your fitness before you posted that body mirror picture.
3. "Hey There Delilah" by Plain White T's
You just broke up with your significant other of two weeks over AIM ( AOL Instant Messenger for those of you who are unfamiliar) and cried to this song. The only light in the dark abyss of your life was the glow of your desktop.
4. "Everytime We Touch" by Cascada
Although nobody knows what the real song sounds like, Cascada's cover brought together our generation at every school dance, bar mitzvah, sweet sixteen, and any other even that involved awkward teens who thought they could dance. Whenever this song played, you thought of whoever you were crushing on at that moment. C'mon, we've all been there.
5. " Shake It" by Metro Station
There was a time in your life where this one hit wonder was the soundtrack of your life.
6. " Teenagers" by My Chemical Romance
Bring out the black eyeliner and put on you checkered sweatband. Your studded belt is hanging in the closet. Gerard Way was the voice of the teenage angst we so desperately wanted.
**** "Welcome To The Black Parade" is another acceptable choice****
7. "Buy U A Drank" - by T-Pain
I know for a fact you are snapping your fingers, doing your step, and doing it all by yourself. Although none of us could legally drink at the time this song peaked, we still sang it to every person we came across.
8. " Ocean Avenue" - by Yellowcard
No matter where you lived in the U.S., there was a place on Ocean Avenue. Even if you weren't sixteen...it felt so right.
9. "Mr. Brightside" - by The Killers
Play this song at anywhere today; bars, sporting events, parties, your daughter's christening, and you'll get a crowd of people screaming at the top of their lungs.
10. "Don't Stop Believin'" - by Journey
It's the last song of the school dance. Boys on one side. Girls on the other. You're either screaming the lyrics to your best friend, crying in the bathroom, or calling your parents to come get you.
