Presto

Let's be honest. When songs are thrown willy-nilly into a movie, they can be a real buzz kill. You're totally in the moment and a tune comes in to summon a groan. However, if you recall your favorite musical movie, you can attest that not only did its songs end up added to your Spotify, but you even watched the movie for the songs. When done well, they enhance the movie. It's no secret that Disney has mastered this art with catchy tunes and snappy visuals. They have their formula down and other movies used different, equally exciting approaches. Scroll on to see if your favorite made it!

1. High School Musical

We may as well get this one out of the way. Who knew one could play basketball and sing! What team!?

2. School of Rock

If you watched this growing up, Jack Black probably played a role in unleashing your inner rocker, or rebel. This feel-good movie is built up to a musical number and certainly delivers attitude from start to finish.

3. Pitch Perfect

You're 100% lying if you claim you've never attempted the Cups song. Jam-packed with a dynamic cast, this one gives your favorite songs the acapella treatment and serious girl power. Plus you're in for tons of laughs.

4. Night Before Christmas

No biggie if you're singing this in July. This stop-motion seamlessly combines Halloween and Christmas, incidentally giving us songs to sing year round.

5. Enchanted

Enchanted brings cartoon world into ours with fairy tale cliches and of course animal friends. Executed with the perfect amount of wit, it comes off super charming and gets you singing along.

6. Camp Rock

Talk about a camp that rocks! Songs in here don't fall flat as each song enhances characters' personalities. Plus, you can't forget this epic last song!

7. Hairspray

Take a trip with John Travolta to the 60's in probably his most interesting role. This one is sure to make you nostalgic of a time you weren't alive for. Hairspray juggles more complex issues of the period with catchy tunes and hip dance moves.

8. Les Misérables

If you need a break from the upbeat songs, escape to 19th century France. This adaptation won't disappoint with a powerful story and songs to match.

9. Wizard of Oz

Set off to see the wizard and make sure to sing along on the way! Even if you haven't seen this one in years, you probably still know each song word for word.

10. Moana

Honestly, this is a placeholder for any given Disney princess movie. Beauty and the Beast, The Lion King, The Little Mermaid, you name it. However, not every one has The Rock. Disney is in total control of bringing characters to life with music all while furthering the plots. This is their way of saying "you're welcome".

Taylor Swift in orange dress playing a moss-covered piano on stage with bright lights.

A three-and-a-half-hour runtime. Nine Eras. Eleven outfit changes. Three surprise songs. Zero breaks. One unforgettable evening. In the past century, no other performer has put on an electric performance quite like Taylor Swift, surpassing her fans ‘wildest dreams’. It is the reason supporters keep coming back to her shows each year. Days later, I’m still in awe of the spectacle ‘Miss Americana’ puts on every few days in a new city. And, like one of Taylor’s exes, has me smiling as I reminisce about the memories of the night we spent together.

Today I started my third week of college at Minnesota State Moorhead. I have survived welcome week, finding my classes on the first day, and being an awkward loner in the dining hall. Even though I have yet to be here for a month, I have already experienced many thoughts and problems that only a new college student can relate to.

"Make sure to get involved when you're in college!"

We've all heard some variation of this phrase, whether it came from parents, other family members, friends, RAs, or college-related articles. And, like many clichés, it's true for the most part. Getting involved during your college years can help you make friends, build your resume, and feel connected to your campus. However, these commitments can get stressful if you're dealing with personal issues, need to work, or aren't sure how to balance classes and everything else going on during the semester.

In college, one of the essential things to have is friends. Yes, textbooks, a laptop, and other school supplies are important but friends are essential. Friends are that support system everybody needs. The more friends you have the better the support system you have. But you also have someone to share experiences with. And don’t settle for just one or two friends because 8 out of 10 times they are busy and you are studying all alone. Or they have other friend groups that do not include you. Don’t settle for just one or two friends; make as many friends as you can. After the first couple of weeks of college, most friend groups are set and you may be without friends.

For a moment your world is spinning. The phone alarm has just scared you awake and you’re flooded by daunting thoughts of the day ahead.
