10 Movie Quotes To Live By
Word Press

Movies are one of life's great escapes. Film is a distraction from the weight of daily emotions. For two hours, it is not about you; it is about the world that has been created in front of you. As humans we love to leave our chaotic lives behind to sit back and watch the chaos of another.

These cinematic masterpieces offer much more than a few hours of brain numbing sights. Above entertainment, movie characters learn life lessons that should be shared with the world. If a superhero can destroy everything and simultaneously save the day, we should be paying attention for some tips. There are great things to be taken from the big screen's leading characters.

The quotes that spring from intense moments and inspirational background music should be cherished. People could swear their lives by these quotes.. Unfortunately, there isn't enough hours in the day to see all of the best movie lines in history be delivered. Here's a round up of ten movie quotes to live by.

1. "Carpe Diem. Seize the day boys. Make your lives extraordinary." John Keating (Robin Williams), "Dead Poets Society"

This quote was delivered by Robin Williams in what can be regarded as one of the best monologues ever given. The pure passion of this line radiates so far out that the audience is ready to jump up and take Williams' advice. This is movie motivation at its finest, and after watching you can only hope to have the outlook on life Mr. Keating has. Everybody wants to live a grand life. Next time you feel like life has knocked you down, think about what Mr. Keating would say. Get back up, tackle the day, and make life everything you want it to be.

2. "Hakuna Matata. It means no worries." The Cast of the Lion King, "The Lion King"

What better place to find motivation than in the lyrics of a Disney song? In "The Lion King," the wise words are most often said by Rafiki the Monkey. However this quote by our fun loving friends Timon and Pumbaa steals the show. The catchy saying never leaves your mind with it's message of smooth living. After a stressful day at work, just bust into this song because everything is going to be okay.

3. "Life is like a box of chocolates. You never know what you're gonna get." Forrest Gump (Tom Hanks), "Forrest Gump"

Forrest Gump is one of the most heart-warming movies to have ever been made. This movie is a roller coaster ride of emotions and hardships. Despite what Gump goes through, his simple character just takes life as it comes. Life is full of surprises and you never know what will come at you next. That being said, we should take a page out of Forrest's book and keep on going.

4. " You're entirely bonkers, but I'll tell you a secret. All the best people are." Alice (Mia Wasikowska), "Alice In Wonderland"

The sheer madness that is "Alice In Wonderland" brings new light to the idea of "crazy." Rather than something negative, this quote brings power to the zany. Only the people who are crazy enough to try to change the world do. Embrace how different you are; it makes you one of the best out there.

5. " It is not our abilities that show what we truly are. It is our choices." Dumbledore (Richard Harris), "Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets"

Movie Rule #1: always take advice from the old wizard with a long white beard. If his appearance isn't enough to prove his wisdom, listen to the many quotes said by Dumbledore. He tells us that the things we show off are not what defines us. Our decisions in life prove our character. Don't let pride be the test of who you are.

6. " I never look back darling, it distracts from the now." Edna Mode, "The Incredibles"

Edna Mode, one of the world's smallest spitfires offers great advice in between her critical comments. If a Disney character has this thought all summed up, you can too. Don't spend time focused on the past. If you have something great in front of you, don't let the past overrun you. Never forget to cherish the moments happening now.

7. " Do. Or do not. There is no try." Yoda, "Star Wars: The Empire Strikes Back"

Being one of the most famous quotes of all time, it can't be heard enough. This Jedi Master has a degree in wisdom, so follow his words. This quote drives the point of determination. If you're going to do something, do it to your fullest capabilities. Always put your all in everything you do. Next time you attempt something go at it full force.

8. " Happiness, only real when shared." Christopher McCandless (Emile Hirsch), "Into the Wild"

"Into the Wild" takes the audience on an epic journey of self discovery. One of the many things McCandless learns about are circumstances surrounding being happy. Happiness is an emotion to be shared. You always want someone to rejoice with, and to spread your happiness to. Share your positive emotions to help them grow stronger.

9. "You mustn't be afraid to dream a little bigger, darling." Eames (Tom Hardy), "Inception"

Although this movie requires extreme focus, taking this quote literally is easy. Dreams are a motivator in life. If you don't have something driving your goals, you'll be stuck. You shouldn't be afraid to set out to accomplish those dreams. Never silence the voice in the back of your head that says to go even farther.

10. "Don't ever let somebody tell you...you can't do something. Not even me. All right? You got a dream...you gotta protect it. People can't do something themselves, they wanna tell you you can't do it. If you want something go get it. Period. " Christopher Gardner (Will Smith), "The Pursuit of Happyness"

Living by this movie quote is a must for everybody. This powerful heart-to-heart should not be taken lightly. As Christopher Gardner gives this life advice, it is something personal that everyone can find meaning in. Use this to remember to never let others drag you down. No matter what happens in life you have yourself. Now go drive yourself and achieve what you want.

I was asked so many times why I wanted to go to a small school when a big university is so much better. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure a big university is great but I absolutely love going to a small school. I know that I miss out on big sporting events and having people actually know where it is. I can't even count how many times I've been asked where it is and I know they won't know so I just say "somewhere in the middle of Wisconsin." But, I get to know most people at my school and I know my professors very well. Not to mention, being able to walk to the other side of campus in 5 minutes at a casual walking pace. I am so happy I made the decision to go to school where I did. I love my school and these are just a few reasons why.
