Seems like we’ve been waiting a decade for our favorite TV shows to be back on from a hiatus, but they’re coming back and sooner than you think. On top of that, we have a few new and notable series that have dropped over the last month or are about to start. From returning favorites on streaming services to quality programs on cable, here’s what we can’t wait to watch this year.
1.“The People v. O.J. Simpson: American Crime Story” – FX (February 2nd)
Get ready to be hooked and question everything. For those of us who were barely coming into the world when this case started, the show is a treat because not only are we getting a picture of the crime of the 20th century, we are reliving the experience as if it were still relevant, and it is with matters such as race, money and abuse. Let’s not forget the compelling performances by the A-list cast starring Cuba Gooding Jr. (O.J. Simpson), John Travolta (Robert Shapiro), David Schwimmer (Robert Kardashian) Sarah Paulson (Marcia Clark) and more. If you were into Netflix series: “Making a Murderer,” this show is highly recommended.
2. “The Walking Dead” –AMC (February 14th)
Returning for the second half of season 6, the edge-of-your-seat TV series is going to make us anxious to see what’s in store for Rick and the gang. We last left off with the survivors making their way through a walker herd by being drenched in corpse guts, but someone’s son was making a bit too much noise, what happens next?! We won’t know until Valentine’s day...perfect timing I’d say.
3. “Daredevil” – Netflix (March 18th)
I personally can’t wait for this one. The cast, the plots, the best fight scenes I’ve seen since, well, any live-action superhero film ever adapted are enough to make me binge watch all day long. The blind lawyer by day, vigilante by night, Matt Murdock (Charlie Cox) returns this season with new gear and more romance. Definitely set a reminder for this one.
4. “Fuller House” – Netflix (February 26th)
Nineties nostalgia anyone? Well, the remake is officially around the corner so you can finally stop watching fan fiction videos on YouTube. The “Full House” original cast members are set to reunite for the 13-episode series on Netflix. Although the Olsen twins won’t make an appearance, you will see the once-teenage girls as adult women raising kids together in San Francisco, and everyone’s favorite John Stamos as Jesse Katsopolis.
5. “Orange Is the New Black” – Netflix (June 17th)
This show doesn’t even need an explanation to why we should tune in again. The wait was long, but finally over. The highly acclaimed third season of Jenji Kohan’s women prison drama/comedy ended quite suspensefully. Here’s what we want to know: what happened with Alex in the greenhouse? Will Crazy Eyes ever write a sequel to The Time Hump Chronicles? What the hell is up with Poussey and Soso? Oh and we’re going to be seeing more of Stella (Ruby Rose) right?! Stay tuned, this summer.
6. “Mr. Robot” – USA (Summer 2016)
Another show you should stay tuned with this summer, or catch up on demand. The dark hacker series won two Golden Globes for Best Television Series – Drama and Best Performance by an actor in a supporting role in a series (Christian Slater). If this isn’t enough proof of how good this show is, I don’t know what is. Just kidding, Rami Malek as a heartthrob for the heavily medicated is enough. The new season returns and I can’t wait to find out if it will be just as impressing as the last.
7. “Young and Hungry” – Freeform (February 3rd)
Already out and ready to excite us again. Spoiler alert: your wishes have come true, Josh (Jonathon Sadowski) and Gabi (Emily Osment) have finally stopped teasing us. I can’t wait to see what’s in store for the rest of the season following their relationship.
8. “The Path” – Hulu (March 30th)
The 10-episode series from Hulu looks suspenseful, according to trailers out now. The show seems promising with its cast as well, starring Breaking Bad’s Aaron Paul and True Detective’s Michelle Monaghan. Expect a lot of drama within a cult run by a charismatic leader (Hannibal’s Hugh Dancy).
9. “The Man in the High Castle” – Amazon Prime (2016)
This show is based on a major history plot twist. What would have happened if the Allied Powers had lost World War II? Get ready to continue experiencing this fictional nightmare in a world dominated by Nazi’s and spies. Season two will arrive with 10 new episodes via Amazon Prime in 2016 starring Alexa Davalos and Luke Kleintank.
10. “Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt” – Netflix (April 15th)
The first 13 episodes were highly acclaimed and it’s probably because it comes from 30 Rock mastermind Tina Fey and writer Robert Carlock. This show is promising to be your favorite with a plot featuring misadventures of unbreakable cult-survivor Kimmy (Ellie Kemper), the unbeatable Titus (Tituss Burgess), and the unbearable Jacqueline (Jane Krakowski).
If you’re too busy to catch up on all these incredible shows, invest on a DVR now or simply watch on demand or streaming services like Netflix or Hulu. Enjoy!
