Miley Cyrus has been a household name since 2006 when Hannah Montana premiered. In the last nine years she has taught us more than how to make mini bunz and twerk really good on Robin Thicke. She was a role model for many girls growing up and here are 10 things she taught us:
1. Best of Both Worlds
Oh Miley, you captured our tween-age hearts with this first hit. Watching Hannah Montana lead her double life as Miley Cyrus gave us all hope that one day we could do the same; double as a pop star undercover as a regular teenage girl. But really...she did teach us that we could reach for the stars even when it seems like its a stretch.
2. Nobody's Perfect
This one has a dance move to go with it that you'll deny practicing in front of your TV but I KNOW you did it too. This one taught us to accept our flaws and to continuously push to be a better version of ourselves.
3. True Friend
This lesson was a tough one. We had to watch Miley as she and Lily got in a fight over not being picked first for P.E. class and got handcuffed together right before Hannah Montana's award show! Jeez, the hijinks these girls got into! Thank goodness Miley wrote true friend to get Lily to realize how much they need one another and remind us fans whats really important in life; our friends.
4. He Could Be the One
Thank you Miley for giving us some of our first fictional boys to fall in love with <3 You always gave us hope that no matter how awkward we were, how many times we said 'Sweet Niblets', or told lies because we were actually international superstars... we could still get a seriously hot boyfriend out of these terribly awk situations.
5. The Climb
Okay, let's be honest we were all a little pissed when Miley gave away her big secret and revealed to the whole town that she was Hannah Montana in her movie. But the song she sang really did touch everyones heart... it's relatable and I know everyones secretly (or not so secretly) belted this ballad out as loud as possible.
6. Party in the USA
I think this title speaks for itself. Miley taught us that life isn't so bad as long as the DJ keeps playin the Britney song all night! The feel good vibe that instantly fills the room anytime this song is played is why it made the list. You can NEVER go wrong playing this classic Miley.
7. 7 Things I Hate About You
This lesson was really about seeing the good in the bad. She starts off stating the seven things she hates about this guy... and by the end says "the seventh thing I hate the most that you do, is make me love you... SHA!" And with that began the lists of things I hated/loved about the boys I had crushes on and the personal remakes of 7 Things.
8. Can't Be Tamed
I always say that this was Mileys attempt at warning us that she was about to go full-fledged twerk queen and no one caught the memo. This song was the perfect timing for us tweens who were entering our high school phase where we were truly unable to be tamed, or so we wanted to think. Her ability to get into words how we wanted to act rebellious was seriously brilliant, thanks Miley.
9. Wrecking Ball
Alright, since we didn't get the hint with number 8... she cut/dyed her hair, stuck her tongue out, and wore her hair in mini bunz. Yes, there was plenty of controversy over Miley at this time but lesbihonest she looks amazing no matter what. Wrecking Ball was one of the most "out there" music videos ever including her giant dancing teddy bears. This song seriously pulled at our heart strings especially because we knew about her and Liam (sad face). Not only did it tell her story, it told so many of our own at the time.
10. We Can't Stop
Talk about party song of the century. If you didn't roll up to school with your windows down blasting this song, who were you? "We can't stop, and we won't stop" I mean how badass is that? This came out right around the age we were experimenting and enjoying the new-found freedom we had.
I think the reason we learned so much from Miley was because we grew up together. She began her career at a time we all wanted to be Disney stars and have our own "You're watching Disney" commercial. She grew up right beside us and changed, just the way we all did, and was able to express those changes through music. Yes, she's a bit edgy and controversial but she has been real. She messed with the fake bulls***t, she was the most realistic role model we had growing up. So thanks Miley, for the life lessons and of course the twerking.
