Since the school year is coming to an end, and I recently began packing up my things in small increments to prevent short term stress, I've begun to realize how much stuff I really have. My room is in constant clutter. When I go home, I make up some sort of excuse to bring more things back to school with me. And I most definitely ALWAYS come back to school with more things than ever before. After living in a dorm for an entire year, I think I can finally share with others what you really need because the lists you find on Pinterest are a true waste of your time..
1. A ridiculous amount of plastic.
Let me tell you, plastic bins, plastic drawers, and of course, plastic bags are your ultimate best friend. There is just not enough space to organize all of your things without them.
2. Pictures.
At some point, let's face it, you're going to get homesick and want to look at your walls and see your old high school friends and family in order to get you through the day. Plus, the walls are ugly and you'll need some decorations.
3. Workout Clothes.
This is pretty much a given, but at first, I thought that I would need more "going out" clothes. In actuality, my laundry consists of leggings, norts, sports bras, and T-shirts. So bring an obnoxious amount of those.
4. Keurig.
No explanation needed because this machine is a God-sent gift and will save your life.
5. Jumbo Calendar.
College is pretty much a cluster of due dates and events that even super humans couldn't keep track of. So this would be an excellent investment because you should have outgrown planners by now.
6. Shoe Rack.
Because digging through your bins or a giant pile of shoes at the bottom of your dark closet is always fun...not.
7. A (thick) Memory Foam.
Wouldn't it be great if the dorms provided everyone with luxury mattresses? That's a true dream of mine, but the mattresses are awful, so get a nice and comfy memory foam to get you through your daytime naps and long nights.
8. Printer.
After having to make the long dark and scary walk by myself to the library countless amounts of times, I would suggest bringing your own printer along with a lifetime supply of ink because it runs out exceptionally fast.
9. Husband Pillow.
The best pillow you will ever own that will save your neck and back from hurting from days on end.
10. Candles.
The rooms smell and even though you're technically not supposed to have these, you should invest in some anyway.
