Unless you live under a rock, you are probably aware that MTV hosted its 32nd Video Music Awards show, and things got weird, to say the very least. If you missed the show or if you're just dying to relive every shocking moment, then here is a list of the top 10 most interesting, ridiculous, and straight-up flabbergasting events that occurred this past Sunday:
1. Taylor Swift and Nicki Minaj performed together
If you weren't already aware, Nicki and Taylor got into a little feud on Twitter a few weeks ago when Nicki called out MTV for not including her Anaconda video as a nominee for the Video of the Year award. However, it was resolved when Taylor apologized and all was right with the world again. To prove just how over it they are, the two performed together to open the show Sunday night and it was pretty magical.
2. Rebel Wilson joked about police brutality, stripped, and then broke Twitter
Rebel Wilson stole the show when she came out dressed as a cop to present the Best Hip-Hop Video award and made a joke about how hated the police are, and how she only hates police strippers, which then offended some people. She then proceeded to rip off said cop outfit into a more appropriate outfit bashing "stripper police." If that weren't enough, Rebel then blessed us with this perfect gif after making the glorious facial expression she made when Nicki called out Miley:
Literally the facial expression we all made at this moment.
3. Nicki Minaj called out Miley Cyrus for talking about her in an interview
In an interview with the New York Times, Miley was asked her opinion on the Nicki and Taylor drama, and, in short, Miley responded by saying that Nicki didn't go about it the right way, therefore she didn't really respect her argument. Nicki was unhappy with Miley's response, and called her out on live TV with millions of people watching. Although there was some speculation that the exchange was staged, Miley was clearly shocked and responded with a casual explanation about interviewers twisting words and congratulated Nicki before coolly moving on. This was the first of many uncomfortable moments for the night.
4. Justin Bieber cried and no one really knows why
Justin's performance was his first in a while and it was quite the emotional experience for him. He performed his popular single "Where Are U Now" and his new single "What Do You Mean?" and ended the scene with an emotional monologue followed by him literally floating down from the ceiling. It was pretty cool, but then he hunched over and started to cry. It was awkward, and of course it got even more awkward when Miley cut the attention away from his emotional moment by making jokes about him calling her when he's legal.
5. Snoop Dog turned into Miley's pet pig after they ate edibles together
To be honest, I have literally no words for this sketch, but here's a vine so you can see "Snoop Pigg" for yourself.
6. Taylor Swift presented Kanye West with the Michael Jackson Video Vanguard award
Kanye West received the Video Vanguard award and in an ironic turn of events, Taylor Swift was the one who presented it to him. If you don't understand why this is ironic, you need to go watch this video from the 2009 VMAs right now. She even included the infamous "Imma let you finish" line in her presentation speech and overall it was a pretty heartfelt moment for everyone.
7. Kanye gave a 12-minute acceptance speech and announced that he'll be running for president in 2020
You can watch the full speech including the mic drop in all its glory here. And if you're ready to start campaigning, Kanye for president merch is on sale NOW on Ebay. #Yeezus4prez
8. Taylor Swift's "Blank Space" won Video of the Year
You can watch her full acceptance speech, which included her entire #squad being brought up on stage with her here. And if you're still living under that rock, here is the video for 'Blank Space':
9. Miley Cyrus did a surprise performance and announced her new album is now online for free
Miley's performance of her new song "Dooo It" included 30 drag queens from the show RuPaul's Drag Race. You can watch the full performance and the music video here. It was wild, crazy, and everything for which we could have hoped from Miley, while also making a pretty big statement with a good message. The performance went hand-in-hand with her #instapride campaign, which honors transgender people, that she launched in June. She also dropped some big news at the end of her song: her new album Miley Cyrus & Her Dead Petz is now available on her website for a free download.
10. And finally, the complete list of all of Miley Cyrus' outfits and her wardrobe malfunction
All 16 of them. And who could forget the accidental nipslip that occurred when Miley was backstage.
And if you don't feel like reading any of this article, here is a 52-second video that sums the entirety of the VMAs up:
