Everyone knows the feeling of boredom. Everyone has said the phrase “I'm so bored, there is nothing to do” at least once in their lifetime. Truthfully, there is always something to do, and it doesn’t always have to be expensive or even cost money at all. Here is a short list of things you can do when you’re bored.
1. Go outside and play a sport.
Tired of being stuck inside and being a couch potato? Playing catch, kicking a soccer ball, getting a little batting practice, hitting the volleyball around, shooting some hoops, playing a game of corn hole is a great way to get some sun and have fun while getting a little exercise.
2. Go downtown.
A lot of cities or towns have a great downtown area, whether big or small, that offers a lot of different things to do. Downtown restaurants often offer free musical entertainment, an art show, comedy, and more with a good meal. There are also usually several unique stores to explore. For example, 3D Hatch in Harrisonburg, Virginia, lets you take and up close look at 3D printing and even get your own 3D printed item.
3. Go to a vineyard.
Something else fun to do is take a trip to a local vineyard or winery. Vineyards offer wine tastings and a great atmosphere to relax and enjoy the beautiful views. Even if you aren’t 21, it is still a great place to go on a picnic.
4. Go hiking.
Okay, so maybe sports or going to the gym aren’t your thing. Another great way to get outside and get some exercise is by going hiking. There are often a variety of hiking trails that have different skills levels for the beginner hiker or expert hiker. Hiking not only offers exercise but also a chance to experience nature.
5. Go karting.
Try finding a go karting place in your area. The fun of go karting is driving fast, acting like a race car driver, and occasionally hitting your fellow race car driver and knocking them out of the race.
6. Play mini-golf.
Mini Golf is a great way to have some friendly competition while doing something new and different. It may cost more money than playing in a pick up soccer game but it is worth it. You don’t have to be a pro golfer to enjoy mini golf and sink a hole in one. There are often indoor and outdoor courses to enjoy.
7. Go shopping.
Shopping can be fun whether you spend money or not. You can go shopping for clothes, accessories, furniture, trinkets, things to decorate your room with, jewelry, food, and more. Trying to find the best deals and getting something new for a good price can be exciting.
8. Go bike riding.
If you have a bike, going for a bike ride is another way to get rid of boredom. The bike can be used for more than a faster ride to and from class. It can be used for an off road adventure or a ride to the local park.
9. Bake.
Baking with friends or by yourself is a great way to give you something to do for a little bit. It has a good reward for a little bit of effort. The fun times of baking include going to the store to get all the necessary ingredients, measuring out all the delicious ingredients, sticking it in the oven, smelling it bake to perfection, then finally being able to eat it! You can try a new recipe found on Pinterest or bake one of your family classics. If sweets aren’t your thing you can always try making a salad or cooking dinner.
10. Get ice cream.
One of my favorite ice cream places in Harrisonburg, Virginia is Grammy’s Ice Cream. Grammy’s offers 36 different hand dipped ice cream flavors along with different sundaes, drinks, and pastries. It is a little store with a great deck and a little creek outside to enjoy your ice cream. With all the variety there is a flavor for almost everyone and you can either go with a single scoop or triple scoop of different flavors if you can’t decide on just one.
Now, grab some friends, get out there, and have some fun.
