I'm proud to call Phi Mu my hΦMe and these are some of the ideals that make it so.
1. To lend to those less fortunate a helping hand.
The world can be a harsh and cruel place. Be the light in the darkness and be giving when you can.
2. To keep forever sacred the memory of those we have loved and lost.
If you have ever lost someone this hits home. Just because someone is gone doesn't mean they should be forgotten, cherish the moments you had with them and let the happiness they have given you and the lessons they have taught you be part of the foundation of your life.
3. To be to others what we would they would be to us.
Treat others how you would like to be treated. It's something they teach us in grade school but some of us forget it along the way.
4. To keep our lives gentle, merciful and just.
Don't let the world make you a hard person that lives by the "life isn't fair" slogan. Yes! Life isn't fair sometimes. Yes! People are harsh and will treat you poorly. However, you don't have to be that way, that's how you change a life.
5. Being steadfast in every duty small or large.
Always give things your all. It doesn't matter the size of the task, you should want everything you do to be done well... this is just a great life skill.
6. Striving to esteem the inner man above culture, wealth or pedigree.
Never judge a book by it's cover, though the news and social stereotypes tells us otherwise. Get to know someone's heart, because that's what truly matters; strive to do that everyday.
7. Being honorable, courteous, tender.
Live a life you would be proud of. Live a life your kids would be proud of.
Put aside the pettiness and the personal feelings and all the ideas you have in you your hea
d, which can be hard. Emotions and what society says and trying to save face can be hard to put aside, but it's the right thing to do. Truth should always win out.
9. To give freely of our sympathies.
Be there for others and understand their pain and struggle. People need that, you have at some point in your life needed that, remember that.
10. To practice day by day love, honor, truth. Thus keeping true to the meaning, spirit and reality of Phi Mu.
Love with all your heart, honor yourself and those around you, and live a life full of truth, be honest with others and be honest with yourself. Be deserving of the letters that were given to you and wear them with pride, knowing that everyday you try to make a difference in peoples' lives.
