It's family game night and everyone has the day off, and yet no one is talking to each other. Whether some people are on their phones, surfing the web on their computer, watching TV, or sleeping getting the family together even when everyone is in the house can prove to be a hassle. However there is always something that can get the family together: board games!
Board games have always been a great way for families to come together for a few hours, pass the time and enjoy a few laughs. So if you're ever in need of game ideas, continue reading this article for some!
1. Uno.
Every family creates their own rules for this game but, no matter how you play it, it is always a great time. Uno is a classic that I've played since I was a kid, however whenever you play with different people the rules can be changed so please be sure to establish the home rules early on in the game. Either in school with friends or at home with my siblings, this game was a sure fire way to pass the time and ignite the competitiveness that we all have inside of us.
2. Sorry.
This game is great for some sibling rivalry. Sorry is all about revenge and sometimes it feels great to send someone all the way back home. Once again, this is another classic. This game is great no matter who you play with. Also, if you're up against your parents it's a great way to show them you have manners by saying "Sorry!" when you get your revenge.
3. Cards Against Humanity.
I would to try to avoid playing this card game with your parents, but feel free to play with your cousins, friends, or siblings. Remember this card game has been referred to as "the game for terrible people." Cards Against Humanity, however, is a great game to play when you need a good laugh and it helps you find out how devious and twisted the people around you really are.
4. Rummikub.
This game has been played in my house since before I can even remember. To be completely honest we never really followed the actual written rules (but let’s be serious, most people don’t). Instead, my family has developed their own take to the game and it has provided us with hours of fun and laughter. The game is about strategy and it includes numbered tiles (1-13) that can be four different colors (black, blue, red, orange). This game is guaranteed family fun whether you’re just learning the actual rules or if you have decided you got the gist of the game and added an extra twist on the game.
5. Monopoly.
This game is a classic and is known for tearing friendships apart. However, this game is fun and engaging and it can bring the family together for hours. This game is for the people who like to dominate and are able to strategize. If you think your relationship with your family members is strong enough then I suggest this game, especially if you guys have time to kill because this game can last for hours.
6. Boogle.
Boogle is a great game if you like word searches. The game is timed and the dice in the case have letters on each side and blank spaces that can be used as wild pieces. The point of the game is to create as many words as you can using the scrambled combination of letters before time runs out. This game is great because it helps people learn new words without even realizing it. This is great to play if you are trying to learn how to speak/read English.
7. Jenga.
If you get nervous easily or if you don't like surprises and loud noises then Jenga is not the game for you. Jenga is a fun game that is mainly about luck and I guess some skill is involved along with it too. When one piece is left remaining on the bottom and the tower shakes before you even touch it and you still manage to get a tile piece out, the satisfaction you get from that is great. Jenga can get very competitive especially if you have engineers or architects in the house.
8. Scrabble.
Scrabble is a great game for the bookworms of the family. Most of the time I feel like the words are made up because my family pulls out some really weird words, but this is another educational game because you do learn new words along the way. Also, being able to get double or triple points especially when using uncommon letters such as X, Q and Z is the best when you have the lowest point score.
9. Pictionary.
If you're not an artist, then this game is going to be hilarious for you to play. Pictionary is basically charades with pictures that you draw. This game is usually very funny and most people laugh the entire time while playing. Some pictures can be insanely funny and can have you second guessing what was even drawn.
10. Trouble.
Trouble has had such a catchy slogan for as long as I can remember. This game, however, can be very irritating if you can never get out from home place. However, this game is fun and it almost feels like a race! This game is exciting and it's really nice to hear the younger kids laugh and giggle when they move their piece around the board.
I hope this article has helped you decide what game to play the next time you have a family game night!
