College is a different experience for everyone. Some people thrive in college and some people struggle to find their place the whole time they're at college. Cafeteria food, more studying than you could ever imagine, and being away from home are all basic struggles that every college student learns to cope with. But what every college student doesn't know is what they're getting into when they sign up to live with people. Here's a glimpse of what living with people is like, as told by the cast of New Girl.
1. Someone has to clean the kitchen.
And everything else for that matter. There's one "mom" in every apartment or dorm hall. And thank God for her, because your life would be a mess without her.
2. Personal space does not really exist.
R.I.P. if you're claustrophobic. Personal space is limited. Take advantage whenever you can.
3. Your closet basically belongs to everyone.
There is a community dress, shirt, or pair of jeans that will be worn by the entire dorm hall or apartment. Don't be alarmed when you notice certain pieces of clothing going M.I.A.
4. Quiet time alone is valued and cherished.
Although the action of college is exciting, it's always nice to have time to yourself. You'll learn to love this time. Find a quiet place and keep it a secret.
5. If one roommate has an eight A.M., you all have an eight A.M.
Between the alarm going off, things clanking together and the door slamming when they walk out the door, if your roommate has an eight A.M, trust me, you'll know.
6. If you don't hide your food, consider it gone.
Be selective with your grocery shopping and/or where you keep your food. Word spreads fast when there's yummy new treats in the dorm.
7. If one of you had a bad day, all of you had a bad day.
There is always a vibe in the apartment or dorm. Trust me, you'll be aware of it.
8. You'll always have someone to paint your nails.
Every girl understands the struggle of not being able to plant their other hand. Luckily, that's what roommates are for.
9. You will be dragged on some very odd, yet very fun adventures.
At least one of your roommates will always need a partner in crime to drag along on their plans.
10. They become your family away from home.
Although you always have your biological family, the bond that you will develop with your roommates doesn't compare. Freshman year of college is such a rare and special time that should be cherished. Your roommates get you because despite what you choose to tell them, they know everything about you. Through the ups and downs, your roomies will always have your back no matter what, for freshman year and beyond.
