We have all been there, the giddy excitement of coming to college. Your room has been packed since May 17 in anticipation for September when you can officially move out. There are going to be emotions all college students experience during their first year at school. Hold tight, you will be a seasoned veteran in no time.
1. Promise
If only everything was filled with this much promise. You can only imagine what your new home will look like. You are confident that you will be the hot new thing on campus with all of the dance moves and friends just waiting to be discovered.
2. Shock
Boom. You moved into Adams. It is nothing like you imagined. We are all women, right? Where did all of this hair come from? How can one room be so small? Where will you put all of your newfound Louisiana Tech University gear? You hear a snicker from your parents; they can hear your heart breaking. "She will be missing us in no time," they whisper.
3. Freedom
The dorm isn't so bad. Your roommates seem cool. Now you are free to do anything you please. Dip in the Lady of the Mist, get a late night snack, not make your bed, it is all up to you for the next four years.
4. Confidence
Who said college was hard? You are not impressed with the syllabus, a few days of exams a quarter; it's all a breeze. As a matter of fact, it is so easy you just may skip that Friday class to enjoy a Thursday night out.
5. Love
Love and obsession are one in the same. You have discovered a new reason to go to class, to snag that cutie. It is important at this phase, to do everything you can to be everywhere he is. After all, you want him to see how much you have in common.
6. Exam one
Ok, technically this can not classify as an emotion, but it should. This will change your outlook on college forever. Suddenly you realize that there was a purpose for mastering chemistry, the library, or the text book. Who knew they served a larger purpose? Why wasn't this covered during orientation?
7. Anger
You met her, the classmate that will graduate with a 4.0 and never cease to remind you. She will refuse to study with you, but demand that you celebrate her 97 percent on Dr. Cox's organic chemistry exam.
8. Sadness
Momentarily, you will feel so sad and overwhelmed that you will forget how fortunate you are to be in college. Mom and Dad will remind you after you let the tears flow. You will realize, it is your fault you didn't do well in the class. You will wipe away those crocodile tears and get your nose in the books!
9. Motivation
You are ready. One more round of exams and you will not be just another statistic! You are buckling down to launch through that glass ceiling and pass this quarter. TOPs can not be taken from you, you need this!
10. Relief
You made it! You might be able to make it through college! With a little determination, a lot of coffee and prayers you are officially a sophomore and ready to muddle through the next three to five years!
Welcome to college, Louisiana Tech freshmen! This is such an extraordinary university! Buckle up, use the library and study hard. With a lot of work and a little faith you will be able to accomplish your dreams through the education you earn here.
