10 Harry Potter Characters So Criminally Underrated It Deserves An Azkaban Sentence

The incredible amount of love I have for the Harry Potter series cannot be put into words. Each and every character has a special place in my heart (except for Umbridge, of course) but I feel as though some character's aren't as appreciated at times.

Here are the Harry Potter characters that deserve more love.

Luna Lovegood

The addition of Luna in the "Order of Phoenix" just elevated my love for the books series. Luna's love for her friends made my heart sing. This was especially apparent when Harry discovers the painting of them all on her ceiling while at her house in the "Deathly Hallows." Luna's kindness and quirkiness give the audience a character to invest in and she'll forever be one of my favorite characters.

Fleur Delacour

Fleur's first appearance in the "Goblet of Fire" showed both her ambition and her love of her sister. As the series progresses, Fleur becomes a huge asset. My favorite scene involving Fleur is probably when Bill (her fiance) is in the hospital with scars all over. While everyone expects her to be repulsed by his wounds, she tells them that she loves Bill for much more than his looks and his scars show his bravery. This scene plus the many times she helped Harry shows how caring Fleur is.

Molly Weasley

To me, Molly Weasley is one of the most important characters in the series. Not only did she not hesitate to take Harry in under her wing, but she also showed him the love of a mother he never got. Throughout the entire series Molly's biggest fear is losing any of her children, Harry included. Without Molly and the rest of the Weasleys, Harry would never understand that a family can be compassionate and loving, and this, to me, is one of the most important aspects of the books.

Cedric Diggory

Cedric Diggory is another character who showed Harry kindness during his short life. Even though Harry didn't appreciate him much at first, because of jealousy over a girl, he continued to be fair towards Harry. One of my favorite parts of the "Goblet of Fire" that shows Cedric's character is when Fleur, using Veela charm, tried to convince Cedric to go to the Yule Ball with her. He said no because he was taking someone else, but this shows his true strength of character and how he's a man of his word. Cedric's death was one of the most heart-wrenching in the series but his legacy will surely live on both at Hogwarts and in our world.

Colin Creevey

Speaking of sad deaths, Colin Creevy may be one of the saddest of all the death in the "Harry Potter" series. Colin was the definition of loyal, especially to Harry. He saw Harry as his hero and that admiration was unwavering until his death in the Battle of Hogwarts. He was the embodiment of joy and excitement at Hogwarts and his braveness will always be commended

Ginny Weasley

Book Ginny and movie Ginny are two very different characters. I think sometimes people's image of Ginny can be a little bit tainted by how she was portrayed in the movies. Ginny was one of the only characters that stood up for Luna when she was being bullied. Her character development is one of my favorite in the books and as much as I love the movies, I wish that they had included a little bit more of it.

Crookshanks

Crookshanks is probably the most underrated characters in the entire series. Most people just see him as a big half-cat, half-kneazle, but in reality, he is one of the smartest characters in the book. He knew that Scabbers was actually Peter Pettigrew and tried to defend Sirius when Harry was going to kill him. It makes sense that such a smart cat would be the pet of Hermoine.

Remus Lupin

Lupin was one of the best professors that ever came to Hogwarts. While his teaching style was a little odd, he was engaging and the class actually learned. He was one of the last Marauders and a close friend to Harry's dad, James. Lupin's death was especially sad due to the fact that he had a newborn child who was orphaned due to the war. He was a brave man who had troubles but was definitely one of the people Harry looked up to.

Nymphadora Tonks

Tonks was a brave Auror who was married to Lupin. She died alongside him in the Battle of Hogwarts, leaving their child to be orphaned. She was a big supporter of the Order of the Phoenix, putting her life in danger many times to defend and help Harry. One of the coolest things about her was a Metamorphmagus so she could change her appearance on command. Her bubbly personality attracted people to her and her loss was a big one within the Order.

Minerva McGonagall

McGonagall is probably my favorite character of all time. Her dedication to keeping Hogwarts safe is admirable and added with her tragic backstory it makes it so she's seen as one of the truly most badass characters of any series. I could talk about McGonagall for hours but I won't do that to you. One of my favorite scenes with McGonagall is the duel between her and Snape right before the Battle of Hogwarts. While the children seem scared of Snape, they're terrified of McGonagall. I, also, enjoy her concern about Harry shown in the first chapter of the first book. She sat outside the Dursley's house for hours to spy on them. Her distaste for Umbridge was another of my favorite parts of the books. I believe McGonagall is an amazing leader and someone all people can look up to.

Overall, I know there are other characters who was also underrated within the Harry Potter series, but these are a few of my favorites.

It is the time of our lives that we are beginning to enter the adult world and most of us, if not all of us, have no idea what we are doing. It's like starting a video game, but skipping the tutorial. We're all just running around aimlessly hoping we accidentally do something right that moves us along the right path. Now that graduation has just happened, or is right around the corner for some of us, it's time to start thinking about how we are going to take care of ourselves once we are on our own.
