Before writing this article, I sent a text to a group message with my friends, saying "What is the most common, sexist comment you hear?" After a lengthy conversation with my friends, this is the top ten that were repeated most, or just bothered the crap out of me.
1. "Women should be seen and not heard." (you can almost hear the man's insecurity in the distance with this comment)
2. "That doesn't make you sound pretty, when you curse like that." Well, good news! I don't have to be "pretty!"
3. "You need to find a boyfriend so you can start a family!" .... But.. What if I do not or am not ready to start a family or ready to start dating..
4. "You're going to be in school a long time for that degree! Can't imagine finding a husband during that." You'll thank me for "spending too much time on my degree" when my law degree gets your sexist self out of trouble.. just saying
5. "I need four boys to help me carry this" -every teacher ever ... When in reality the girls were just as capaple if not more so than the boys to carry the previously mentioned object
6. "Those shorts are too short, where is your self respect?" My self respect doesn't rely on the amount of clothes I have on.. if it did then why wouldn't we all wear winter clothing every day, right??
7. "Stop being such a tease" Okay so wait, are you implying I, or any other women, owe you anything? Much less owe you sexual acts? You trippin
8. The "Wow what a slut" that a women recives after saying the amount of sexual partners she has had.. even when the man sitting beside her has had the same because the double standard here is so dang strong.
9. "She was asking for it anyways" .. okay woah wait, what women would ask for anything other than respect, consent, and decency from other human beings. (peep my huge, middle finger here)
10. "Why do women never shut up about feminisim? Like, you have equal rights?" .. and my answer to this comment, is the 9 previously mentioned points.
