10 Things You Miss About College Over The Summer

Gone are the days when I look forward to summer vacation; mainly because I’m away from my home away from home.

Of course, I love coming home and seeing all my friends and family. But, honestly, three months is kind of excessive after being on your own all year. One of the main things I miss about college is always having something to do. Whether it be classes, studying, extracurriculars, or just hanging out with friends, I never have a boring day when I’m at school. I can’t say the same for my days at home. I am so bored, and I find myself missing Oneonta more and more every single day. Here are some of the major things I miss about being in school.

1. Being productive

Most days in school, I actually get things done. It’s hard to lounge in bed all day when you have roommates who will judge you for it.

2. Never being lonely

When you live in a dorm, you are constantly around people. Though it can get a little suffocating sometimes, going back to having my own room at home does get a little lonely. Seeing something funny on Tumblr at 2 a.m. and having no one to show it to is getting a little depressing.

As much as I adore my "me time," I am really missing always having someone around.

3. Having several closets to choose from

I HAVE NO CLOTHES.

I often take for granted while at school how nice it is to have several closets full of roommates clothes to pick from. Seriously, during the school year, I hardly ever wear my own clothes. But that’s what roomies are for… right?

4. The dining hall

Ok, I don’t mean I miss the actual food, because I love home-cooked meals much more. What I miss is always having several options of what I want to eat. I actually eat healthier at school than I do at home.

5. Getting ready to go out

This may sound incredibly corny, but nothing is better than obsessing over an outfit, doing your hair, and then jamming out to music as you do your makeup.

Sometimes, the preparation for a night out is better than the actual night out.

6. Actually going out

Although, hitting the town is fun most of the time. The best friends you make are the fellow drunk girls in the bathroom at the bar, who you most likely will never talk to again. Here’s to you, drunk bathroom girls!

7. The restaurants

I miss Oneonta’s food so much. I miss going to my favorite coffee place and getting a large latte to nurse my hangover. I miss the epic pasta salad at Undercover Eggplant, and most of all, I miss getting tomato soup at Yellow Deli at ungodly hours of the night.

8. Independence

I actually feel like an adult when I'm away at school; crazy, I know. It's nice to have no one to answer to, to be able to have your own schedule without having to worry about much else.

9. Living in a dorm

There are many things that I absolutely can't stand about living in a dorm, but I can't lie, I do miss it. There's just an awesome sense of community that comes along with dorm life; it's like living in a really tiny town.

Let's be honest, it's never boring when you have dozens of people your same age living in one building.

10. Looking forward to going home

I know this entire article is about how I want to leave home and go back to school, but when I'm at school for a while I always end up counting down the days until I go home. It's like a constant cycle of missing the place you are not.

Whoever says high school is the "best four years of your life" has obviously never been to college, because every time I come home I just find myself missing Oneonta more and more.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
