It's the most wonderful time of the year, Christmas is just around the corner and the holiday season is in full-swing. Sometimes, however, the best things in life don't revolve around presents underneath the Christmas tree, but how you spend your time with others and make the most of the holiday season. Here are ten Christmas-y things you can do if you're from the New York/ New Jersey area.
1. Take a Day-Trip into New York City and Visit Rockefeller Center:
There is probably nothing quite as magical as the city during the holidays. Seeing the city lit up in Christmas lights and big red bows can put anyone in the holiday spirit. If you have the chance, you can even take a picture kissing your significant other in front of the tree, it's almost tradition.
2. Visit Peddler's Village:
This little town in Bucks County, PA is something out of the movies. All year-round they have different festivals and attractions, but seeing it during Christmas is like being in a winter wonderland. The specialty shops are great to visit for some last minute shopping and the town itself will bring you joy.
3. Christmas Festival at the Morristown Green:
Morristown is a popular town in North New Jersey that has a beautiful Christmas tree lighting each year. Not to mention, for almost the entirety of December there is a constant stream of Christmas events in the center of town with chances to meet Santa.
4. Skylands Stadium Christmas Light Show:
Every year from November until January, Skyland Stadium puts up a fantastic display of Christmas lights for everyone to see. There is also food available, entertainment, crafts and chances to visit Santa.
In my experience, baking cookies is a staple of Christmas festivities. The smell of warm cookies in the oven as you and your family, friends or significant other bake together gives you the warm fuzzies, not to mention how fun they are to decorate. Maybe have a flour fight and you can reenact all those cheesy rom com movies you've watched too many times.
6. Have a Christmas Movie Marathon:
Dedicate one day this holiday season to doing nothing but snuggling up and binge-watching all of your favorite Christmas movies with a cup of hot chocolate. It'll get you in the holiday spirit and bring back some great memories.
7. Build a Gingerbread House:
You don't have to be an artist or a baker to pull one of these off, and honestly, half the fun is struggling to make them. Plus, it'll give you a pretty good excuse to eat all the candy you were supposed to decorate the house with.
8. Watch the Snow Fall or Take a Walk in a Park:
Sometimes we underestimate how beautiful the simple things are. By simply watching the snow fall outside our windows, we can appreciate the things around us. Accompanied by a fire or some Christmas music, you'll feel more at peace than you have all year. And, if you get the chance, try taking a walk in a nearby park in the snow while drinking a hot chocolate or an Americano, it'll be sure to make your day.
9. Have a Christmas Music Dance Party:
Blast "All I Want for Christmas is You" and dance your heart out. No one can be sad when dancing to some upbeat Christmas songs around your house.
10. Spend Time with Your Family:
Make sure to take advantage of family time; life is short and appreciating them while you can during the holidays has more of an impact on you and them than you'd think. Snuggle up with those who love you this holiday season.
Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays!
