We're nearing the end of the semester, which means we won't be busy with school work soon! Finally, us bookworms will have more time to read for leisure. If you need help finding a good book to read, this list is for you! Here are some great books you should definitely check out.
1. "Let it Snow" by John Green, Maureen Johnson, and Lauren Myracle
This book is a perfect read for the holiday season! It consists of three holiday romance stories that are both funny and adorable. Despite John Green's reputation for writing books with sad endings, all of the stories are light-hearted and pleasant.
2. "Looking for Alaska" by John Green
If you have not read this book yet, you should 110% read it! It is funny, romantic and heart-wrenching. Many people agree that this is John Green's best book. If you choose to read this, prepare yourself for a roller coaster of emotion.
3. "Miss Peregrines Home for Peculiar Children" by Ransom Riggs
This book is a big favorite of mine! It is strange, suspenseful, and full of adventure. It includes photographs and illustrations that make the story more creepy. Truly a beautiful story and a wicked page-turner!
4. "The Diary of a Haunting" by M. Verano
This book includes elements of both mystery and horror. Like Miss Peregrines Home For Peculiar Children, it includes photographs to accompany the story. I have to admit, I got pretty creeped out while I was alone in my room reading this.
5. "Love and Misadventure" by Lang Leav
This book is actually a collection of poems by artist and poet, Lang Leav. Her poems are beautifully written and easy to understand. Her work in this book, ranges from sad to heartwarming. It is also a pretty quick read!
6. "Eleanor and Park" by Rainbow Rowell
This book is truly amazing! It is about a romantic connection that forms between an unlikely pair. It is told from both of the lovers' points of view. It is heartwarming, an emotional roller coaster and a page-turner.
7. "All the Bright Places" by Jennifer Niven
This book is kind of similar to Eleanor and Park in the sense that it involves a romance between two unlikely characters and is told from two different points of view. This one is soon going to be made into a movie but please, do not look up the trailer! The one I watched after reading the book contains a major spoiler. It is romantic, adorable and heartwrenching. I fell in love with this book, and the main characters while reading it.
8. "Lolita" by Vladimir Nabokov
This is probably one of the most controversial stories ever published. It is told from the point of view of a forty-year-old man who becomes infatuated with a -- WAIT FOR IT -- twelve-year-old girl. It is disturbing but also very intriguing and honest. It's one of those books where you don't like the narrator but you are still interested in hearing their story.
9. "Girl Interrupted" by Susanna Kaysen
You may have heard of the film Girl Interrupted but it is actually based on this true story written by Susanna Kaysen. Susanna tells the story of her experience at the mental institution and describes some of the people she befriends during her stay. The book even includes a copy of her real case file! Even if you have seen the movie, you should still read this! It is a very interesting and beautifully written psychological narrative.
10. "Will Grayson, Will Grayson" by John Green and David Levithan
If you like to laugh, this is definitely the book for you! It is a story about two completely different people named Will Grayson and is told from the points of view of both. This is a funny, cute, and light-hearted story.
