Spring break = seven whole days of no school! Whether you're on a beach or at home, these seven days give you a chance to leave your schoolwork behind (at least for a bit) and enjoy some free time. Although you're probably going to spend a lot of time watching Netflix (which, you know, is always a good use of time), this is also the perfect time to catch up on your just-for-fun reading.
In order to celebrate, here's a list of 10 beach (or home) worthy books (some of which I've read, and some of which I'll hopefully get to over break:
1. "Why Not Me?" by Mindy Kaling
Mindy Kaling's first book, "Why is Everyone Hanging Out Without Me?" was possibly one of the funniest books I've ever read. Although I never got the chance to read the second one, I'm really hoping that I'll get to during spring break and that it's just as hilarious as the first.
2. "The Girl On The Train" by Paula Hawkins
This thriller has been called similar to Hitchcock's movies and is said to be one of the most chilling books. My cousin's been telling me to read it for forever, but I haven't had the chance—hopefully, I will during spring break!
3. "Me Before You" by Jojo Moyes
I know nothing about this book except that it's a romance that's going to be turned into a movie starring Emilia Clarke and Sam Claffin, which is enough of an incentive to read it.
4. "The Rosie Project" by Graeme Simson
I picked up this book solely because my dog is named Rosie, but this book doesn't actually involve any dogs. However, it is a quirky romance between a man with Asperger's syndrome and a spunky bartender that is both emotional and funny.
5. "The Mountaintop School For Dogs and Other Second Chances" by Ellen Cooney
This book actually is about dogs! That's basically all I know about it (my sister's friend recommended it to her), but since it talks about dogs, it probably has to be good.
6. "Memories" by Lang Leav
This poetry anthology is amazing and will appeal to any Millennial.
7. "Gone Girl" by Gillian Flynn
You probably loved the movie, so now it's time to read the book! I know, nothing screams beach read like a thriller/murder mystery.
8. "For Darkness Shows the Stars" by Diana Peterfreund
It's no secret that I really don't like Jane Austen. Her characters, in my opinion, are too one dimensional—the "pretty one," the "annoying one," the "smart one," etc. However, this modernized version of Jane Austen's "Persuasion" doesn't have any of these flaws and has some pretty cool sci-fi elements, making it an awesome read.
9. "Along for the Ride" by Sarah Dessen
While we're on the subject of YA books, Sarah Dessen book's are chick flick YA book romances and are the ultimate beach reads. Although all her books are pretty great, "Along for the Ride" is probably my favorite.
10. "The Nightingale" by Kristin Hannah
This book has gained immense popularity during the last year (It has five stars and 20,000 reviews on Amazon!) and tells the story of two sisters living in occupied France during WWII.
Have a good break, everyone!
