I'm not saying that living with one person is terrible or that it's a bad idea, but sometimes it really is the more the merrier and here's why:
1.Four different perspectives
The house is full of four other personalities which means you always have someone to go to. Sometimes certain people are better at advise and other times different people can relate better so you never have to feel like you can’t vent. This also means a household full of traits like the artistic one who designs literally the entire home, the smart one that helps you proofread everything so you don’t sound stupid when you’re making your resume, the supportive one that tells you how much you do deserve that 4th cup of coffee, 6th cookie and to totally buy that shirt for $40, and lastly the one that’s really good at cooking and has you begging to make more buffalo chicken dip.
2.Food
There’s always so much food and basically everything is up for grabs. Whether it’s a tray of cookies, a large pot of coffee or even pouring your cereal and realizing you forgot to buy milk, someone has it and they don’t mind sharing.
3.Coffee runs
There’s always that person that will never turn down Dunkin’. Or when that person is busy, there’s three others that are probably already at Starbucks and will just bring you something. From BOGOs at Biggby to $1.99 lattes, someone is ALWAYS down to go get coffee.
4.There’s always someone to hang out with
With five different schedules, there’s usually someone else that is home that you can bug. You basically have four best friends which makes it 100 times less likely to get sick of someone. Having only one person around constantly will drive you absolutely crazy so having four different people to spend time with makes friendships practically stress free.
5.You never know who actually made the mess
As weird as it sounds, not knowing who made what mess is actually a good thing. It’s easier to address the situation in a group chat then it is to be constantly nagging one person. When you live with one person, you know exactly who didn’t do their dishes and if you let it annoy you too much, everything they do will start to annoy you. With this many people, everyone helps with the cleaning.
6.Family nights
Every once in a while, we all have some free time which means we all get to hang out together. Whether it’s going out or staying in and watching a movie with 8 glasses of wine, it’s always a lot of fun and like I said before, SO much food.
7.Four different closets
You can never say you have nothing to wear.
8.More understanding about personal space
We all understand how busy each other is and how sometimes people just want to be left alone. When you’re living with one person, it’s hard not to talk their ear off when you have so much to say but they want nothing more than to sit in silence. With more people, you can just move onto the next person and talk their ear off instead.
9.Expanding your circle
Within the last year, I have made 4 times more friends than I would have living with one person. With so many people around and a million things they want you to do, you find yourself becoming a lot more open minded and being forced to come out of your shell.
10.At least one person finds you funny
You can say the dumbest joke and at least one person will be in tears. At least one person understands your Office jokes, another laughs at your Bob’s Burgers references and another just completely understands your sarcasm.
Gaining 4 roommates was completely unexpected but also the best thing that could have happened during my college experience. Even after the mornings of getting woken up at 7am to music blaring, finding myself stuck with no toilet paper or seeing that someone used the last of my coffee creamer, I still couldn’t imagine living with anyone else.
