While it may feel like the world is crumbling around us, there is one thing that will get me through anything and that is music. I love songs. I love ones that make me cry. I love ones that make me smile. I love ones that make me nostalgic for the past. 2016 may have not been the best year for our country, or even our world, but if we take the time to listen to some amazing songs, things might start to get a little better. You may not have the same music taste as I do, but here are a list of songs that make me feel better in one way or another.

1. "Vienna" by Billy Joel

This is one of those songs that makes you cry, but also, the song reminds me of my best friends. It reminds me of good times, and although sad, it puts a smiling on my face.

2. "Island in the Sun" by Weezer

What an amazing song, and I know many people would agree. The upbeat tune and the reminder of summer, it just brings good vibes to anyone who listens.

3. "Doses and Mimosas" by Cherub

Now this song might seem like an odd choice, but I promise you...just give it a listen. It's upbeat, it's fun, it makes you want to dance and just forget everything else.

4. "Somewhere Only You Know" By Keane

Now this song, this one just makes me cry. I don't know what exactly about it does this to me, but It's beautiful. The tune, the lyrics, everything. And everyone needs a good cry every now and again, right?

5. "I Want It That Way" by The Backstreet Boys

Well, I don't know if there is much to say about this because I can guarantee most people agree this will make them feel better. It's just a classic.

6. "Everybody Wants to Rule the World" by Tears for Fears

This is one of those songs I can always put on. It just has a good message to it. "Nothing every lasts for ever," Tears for Fears sings. And in a time like this, that's something we really have to remember.

7. "Say My Name" by Destiny's Child

Another classic. A song you can belt out when you are driving in your car alone, or having a dance party with your friends in your PJs. Either way, a song that can bring almost anyone joy.

8. "Home" by Phillip Phillips

Another tear jerker, and no other than by an American Idol winner. But, that doesn't matter. This is a beautiful song. One that reminds me of how I love my home. And to me, home is where family and friends are. And when we are sad, or lonely, or scared for whatever reason, it's always important to know where home is.

9. "Take a Walk" by Passion Pit

This song says it all in the title. It's an uplifting song; one that reminds me that when things are hard, to go and take a walk.

10. "Shake It Off" by Taylor Swift

For anyone that knows me and has been reading this article, they definitely have been wondering, "wow, where is the Taylor Swift songs?" Well, I must say I have to save the best for last. Not only does this song bring me pure joy because it is sung by no other than the Taylor Swift herself, but it reminds us to shake off the bad things. Shake it all off, and dance and have fun. And in a time where we might have trouble shaking of the bad things, we need to remember that we need to stand up for what we believe in. And by standing up for what we believe in, we are shaking it off as well.

Raising the minimum wage to a livable wage would not only benefit workers and their families, it would also have positive impacts on the economy and society. Studies have shown that by increasing the minimum wage, poverty and inequality can be reduced by enabling workers to meet their basic needs and reducing income disparities.

I come from a low-income family. A family, like many others in the United States, which has lived paycheck to paycheck. My family and other families in my community have been trying to make ends meet by living on the minimum wage. We are proof that it doesn't work.

April Ludgate

Every college student knows and understands the struggle of forcing themselves to continue to care about school. Between the piles of homework, the hours of studying and the painfully long lectures, the desire to dropout is something that is constantly weighing on each and every one of us, but the glimmer of hope at the end of the tunnel helps to keep us motivated. While we are somehow managing to stay enrolled and (semi) alert, that does not mean that our inner-demons aren't telling us otherwise, and who is better to explain inner-demons than the beloved April Ludgate herself? Because of her dark-spirit and lack of filter, April has successfully been able to describe the emotional roller-coaster that is college on at least 13 different occasions and here they are.
