Virginia Tech isn't ranked number one in campus food for nothing!
These are, in my opinion, the ten best places to go to grab food on campus at Tech (not in any particular order). If you haven't visited one of these yet I would strongly advice to do so. Immediately. They are amazing. If you don't go to Tech, visit, You won't regret it.
1. J.P.'s Chop House- If you're looking for a cheep homestyle cooked meal, head over to J.P's Chop House. With your Hokie P you can get chicken, mashed potatoes, a roll and veggies for about four dollars. Also, what other campus could you get a whole lobster from? Ya. A whole lobster.
2. Frank's Deli- Go by Frank's Deli to try some yummy bistro style sandwiches. There's a sandwich there that has it's own line, the Fantastic Frank. Toasted bread, grilled chicken, swiss cheese, cooked peppers, lettuce and...their special sauce. You are not a Hokie if you haven't had this sandwich. Seriously, it's even on the freshman bucket list!
3. Origami- Uhm who doesn't love having a hibachi restaurant in their meal plan? Make a reservation and you and your friends can have dinner and a show for half the price typical hibachi grills charge (with your Hokie P). The chefs are lots of fun and the food is amazing! During lunch, they have a quick line where they will either make you fried rice or noodle dishes with whatever protein you choose and food made to order!
4. Jamba Juice- Personally my favorite place on campus. When I first moved to Virginia, I could not find a Jamba Juice for the life of me. When Virginia Tech opened one, I knew I had to go here… just kidding… except not really. They have the absolute best smoothies and they're really healthy as well! If you aren't in the mood for a smoothie, their oatmeal and toppers are amazing.
5. Bruegger's Bagels- Best place to go for breakfast. They have every bagel thinkable. From your regular plain to chocolate to jalapeño. Pick from their several cream cheeses, sandwich toppings, or both. And if you can't decide get one of their menu items! My personal favorite -- the Harvest Turkey with apples, turkey, maple cream cheese, cheddar cheese, cranberry mayo, and lettuce.
6. Soup Garden- I probably go here every day. Though it's called the Soup Garden, their salads are definitely the focus of this campus dining service. Customize your own salad with they're long list of options as they toss it for you and pack it up so it's all ready it eat. They also have signature dishes that change every day.
7. 1872 Fire Grill- Southern Food, need I say more? Go during breakfast and you can enjoy chicken and waffles or biscuits and gravy, for lunch and dinner they serve jerk chicken, pecan pies, rice, and so much more. If you enter a separate line, you can order a nice steak, sweet potato casserole and green beans. Yum Yum Yum.
8. Burger '37- Just opened last year, this burger joint is a must to visit. I have waited an hour to get their burgers before. You can order one of their signature burgers or build your own and they are so amazing. Imagine Red Robin burgers, but more gourmet. And they're milkshakes? To die for.
9. Au Bon Pain- Pastry galore, awesome mac and cheese, iced peach tea, yummy hot sandwiches and great snack foods are what bring me to ABP. They're french inspired foods kill my dining dollars. It's so easy to grab something some munchies before class...and then some more after.
10. Bistro Firenze- If you're craving Italian, this is the place to go. Pasta, wood fire oven pizzas and calzones, caesar salads, and AMAZING cheesy garlic bread. Each day, they have a special pasta, calzone, pizza and sauce. I have yet to try one I don't love, and coming from a hardcore carb addict whose favorite food is italian, that means a lot.
