Trying restaurants you know nothing about can be scary, so I am here to help!
10. Wahoo’s Fish Taco. If you love Mexi-Cali and want
something a little classier than the local competition, this is the place for
you. Cheap food, huge portions,
delicious sauces -- what more could you ask for? Not much.
9. The Oven. Most people get a little freaked out by the
thought of Indian food, but trust me, you shouldn’t. It is basically the same concept as Chinese
food, but more flavor and less grease. A
must try.
8. Dozo Sushi Grill and Lounge. This restaurant has to
make the list because they have supported me through my sushi obsession before
the other competitors moved in, and they still deserve same love and support. However, they are not the only sushi restaurant in town with a killer happy hour.
7. Mellow
Mushroom. Most people do this restaurant
wrong. This is not the place where you
go to order the basic pepperoni or cheese pizza. Next time, give one of their specialty pizzas a shot -- like the Thai dye -- and you
might love it, too.
6. Yia Yia’s. This place has super good pizza with plenty
of toppings and more of a hangout atmosphere. They also have an extensive beer menu, but I cannot vouch for that, yet.
5. Vincenzo’s Italian
Ristorante. The perfect Italian
restaurant is something I have been searching for my entire life. Vincenzo’s is not that restaurant, but it does
satisfy an Italian food craving. This is
more of a date night place than somewhere you go to treat yourself to a nice
dinner while studying for finals.
4. Dempsey’s Burger
Pub. Located in part of the old
Spaghetti Works building downtown, this restaurant reminds me of MacLaren’s
from How I Met Your Mother. They make
their own ketchup and call it catsup, which is cool. The only downside is that they give you
little tiny containers of it and they cost extra.
3. Buzzard Billy’s. When you realize that you forgot to eat all
day and feel like you are starving, come here. This Cajun-style restaurant gives you so much delicious food you will be
full for days! Just know that the alligator fingers are not an appetizer you
share, they are just too good.
2. Lead Belly. This is another restaurant that doesn’t skimp
on serving size. Like Mellow Mushroom,
do not come here and expect to order a plain cheeseburger, give some of the wild
things on the menu a chance; they wouldn’t be there if they weren’t good!
1. El Potrero. This restaurant is my personal favorite. Free chips and salsa, authentic Mexican food,
and an atmosphere that makes you feel like you are on vacation! I also hear
they have good margaritas.
