Do you guys like music? Yeah, same, that's why I decided to make this list. This list is nowhere near comprehensive, just as it is extremely random. I just figured I would share a couple bands/artists I enjoy that will make you feel some type of way. There is no order to these because ranking good music is really hard and only pisses people off.
1. Cherub
These guys are an electric-indie group that I was hooked on for awhile, like the type of hooked where you don't listen to anything else. They are a great way to start the day in a positive way and will wake you up immediately; you won't even need coffee. Ok, you might still need coffee. There're not many albums that I can say I enjoy listening to straight through, but their album Year of the Caprese is definitely one of them. If you have never heard of them, I recommend starting out with Doses & Mimosas or Freaky Me, Freaky You.
2. Silversun Pickups
When I was younger I heard a Silversun Pickups song and thought they sounded annoying. If that's not a perfect example of adolescent ignorance then I don't know what is. These guys have quickly developed into my favorite band simply because of the variety of their music and the moods they can cater to. For first time listeners I would definitely start with the album Carnavas to see what they are about; another album I can listen to straight through
3. Death Cab for Cutie
While Death Cab also has several different sounds, they are my go to for a melancholy mood. Their lead singer, Ben Gibbard, has a tendency to pour himself out in his songs. The song Transatlanticism especially has a great build until Ben pretty much sings himself to emotional exhaustion. So yeah, these guys are a great band if you are trying to be in your feels.
4. The Mowgli's
If you're still trying to be sad for awhile after Death Cab, these guys are not the band to listen to. Their sound is cheery and will make you feel pretty optimistic about the future. The band's arch enemy is a tiger named Shere Khan. Get it? Jungle Book, am I right?
5. The Sheila Divine
This one's a bit of an older group. They have a cult like following; I just got lucky enough to have my brothers part of that cult. This is definitely Indie-Rock at it's finest and is great chill music. Along with Silversun and The Smashing Pumpkins, The Sheila Divine is the go to homework music.
6. The National
Another great Melancholy group. The National has a really unique sound and probably one of my favorite songs ever; Slow Show is a really slow one (go figure) but it just strikes home. Also, the song About Today, which is at the end of the movie Warrior, is a great one.
7. Coldplay
These guys played at the Super Bowl so they have to be good. No, but really, they have a really cool sound. Viva la Vida was one of the very first CD's (other than the Now CD's) that I ever owned. My dad likes these guys too; I can tell because he used to constantly be in his office blaring them and singing along. There was a brief week where he played the Empire State of Mind a thousand times in a row, but then he got right back to more Coldplay.
8. Red Hot Chili Peppers
This one's kind of a no brainer. They are in a totally different class than all of these other guys; it didn't feel right to have a "feels" list and not put them on it.
9. Nickleback
Just kidding. Bet you've never heard that joke, huh?
9.5 The Strokes
You know that song Reptilla? The one that's on every sports video game ever? Well, it took me a few years to figure out they actually had other songs but I'm so glad I came to that realization. At the risk of a terrible pun, it's safe to say these guys rock. Because they're a rock band. That's why they rock. That's the pun.
10. The Smashing Pumpkins
For the last band, I had to give credit to another one of my brother's favorites. These guys have a lot of music and they can be pretty hit or miss to be honest. The hits though make all those misses still worth the time you invested in listening. Cherub Rock will forever be another of my favorites. Whenever my oldest brother was home from college I would ask him to play the guitar riff on his electric so I guess it's that whole memory-music association that makes this song so great.
