Christmas is over and now it’s finally time for an actual “break”. But what to do? There’s so much time but also little of it at the same time. So what are options to spend your winter break?
Here’s 10 activities that’ll keep you winter break the perfect balance of relaxing and fun!
1. Go to the Movies
The holiday season calls in lots of new movie releases since everyone usually has a break. So take advantage of actually visiting your local movie theater to experience movie magic on the big screen. I know I’ll be dragging my sister to see the acclaimed movie “La La Land” so we can fangirl over Ryan Gosling singing, dancing and playing the piano while watching Emma Stone rock another film. There’s a movie for everyone whether watching an animated film for all ages like “Sing” and “Moana” or a holiday comedy like “Why Him?” Grab some friends, buy tickets and popcorn and you’ll be set!
2. Classic Snow Fun
Depending on where you geographically live, winter break is a great to bring out your inner kid and play in the snow. From snowman building, igloo making, sledding and snowball fights. Snow and your imagination has limitless of activities! Just remember to warm yourself up with a nice warm cup of hot cocoa and to wear proper winter gear to protect yourself from the cold! And if you don’t have snow where you live, I guess you can decorate your cactus like a snowman and try making sand angels to get in the holiday spirit.
3. Winter Sports
Again this activity does require snow, but you can always get creative trying to make winter sports in a warmer climate! You can gather your crew and have a casual outing on the slopes to ski or snowboard or you can get competitive and start a friendly match of ice hockey. If you’re lacking ideas on what are winter sports, you can use our friend Google to check out winter Olympic sports and maybe start your own version of the games!
4. Holiday Treats

5. Reconnect with Family and Friends

6. SLEEP
Your bed misses you. Make up lost time and reconnect. Go full out hibernation for a day or two just to actually get some rest. When was the last time you had a decent night’s sleep?
7. Have some “Fun Reading”
Remember how you wanted to read that new Harry Potter book back in September but never had time because you had five other textbooks and readings to do for school? Well, it’s winter break now and Harry is calling your name. When will you have time to just read for leisure? Be a reading maniac over break and cross of multiple books on your “I want to read” list!
8. Uninterrupted Netflix Binge
Maybe you’re sick of reading and just want to lay on the couch surrounded by mountains of blankets and chill. You’ve probably done lots of Netflix watching over the last semester but now you have nothing to stop you on finishing your show! You can crank out season after season, maybe start a new show or take a break from bingeing and watch a movie. My personal favorite binges include rewatching “The Office” and “Parks and Rec”; those are just classics.
9. Get Started on New Year’s Resolution’s
This a great time to reflect on the current year and think about how you want to better yourself for the next one. These resolutions don’t have to be major changes it can be small goals like making sure you’re drinking water everyday or it can be just a mindset thing like “I want to be more positive”. I like writing mine down as a reminder to myself and it feels more permanent when you do compared to just thinking about it in your mind.
10. Prepare for Next Semester
Lastly, I know it’s break but we enter back school in just a couple weeks so we can’t forget about it. You don’t have to prepare to much but it’s good to know you have all the things you have for the upcoming semester. Do you have your books? Do you still have food in your dorm? Is there anything I need to bring from home? etc. It’s better to be prepared than having to stress about it last minute!
