A year ago I decided to apply for the Odyssey Online. I read the articles often, I related to the articles and I knew I wanted to take my love for writing to a bigger scale. I knew that the Odyssey could give me the experience I was looking for. I loved that I was able to write about whatever I wanted, felt like and whatever interested me. I knew I needed to apply. I got the call and I had the job. I have had to write one article a week for one entire year! I have had over 50 articles published and shared online and on social media. It has been rewarding to know that the work I am creating is being read and appreciated by people I know and even complete strangers. A year ago I started on a great adventure.

I didn't really know what to expect when I started writing for the Odyssey but I knew I was just excited to get writing. It was something that I was studying and something I loved to do. I am lucky enough to do something I love on a platform that provides an outlet for college students to write about college life, sports and opinions. I have been writing every week for the past year and I have been so happy doing it. In case you need any convincing, here are some reasons that you, yourself, should join the community!

You can write about whatever you want. The Odyssey is totally open. One week you could write about an upcoming sports event, then the next week you could write about back-to-school fashion, celebrity drama, politics, your roommates, your classes, the holidays, where you grew up, about your best friends. There is really nothing off the table!

They are super flexible. You do not have to write everyday. All you have to do is turn your article in by the deadline your EIC (Editor-in-Chief) sets for you. You are given an entire week to think about what you want to write and to actually write about it.

A resume booster. It is important that you have experience for the real world. Any writing is great but with the Odyssey you have someone there to give you guidance and help edit your work. You have it going live on a platform that reaches millions of people. Your articles are being seen and you have actual material to show future employers!

It is fun. Being able to write whatever you want, whenever you want and have people read it is actually fun!

So, Odyssey, it has been a great year and to everybody else-you could have a year just like mine! I hope my reasons were enough for you to consider applying.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

There have been many lessons learned.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
