One Week Later With Contacts

I'm going to poke my eye out.

I've been wearing glasses ever since mid-seventh grade or so. I can easily recall adjusting to them. Constantly losing them, forgetting to put them on as I start my day, or the headaches they caused my eyes at the start. All in all, it took some time to get used to it.

But, ultimately earlier this year I found myself pondering exactly what I should do as far as my eye care in the long term. As I write this article, I'm 19 years old, turning 20 in just over a month. I'm very likely going to have a lot more years left on this earth, and I should really start considering my options for eye care. So it boiled down to 3 options. Contact, Glasses, or getting Lasik eye surgery.

I'm naturally a nervous guy. I get anxious about all sorts of things. And, I was a bit nervous about constantly poking my eyes in the attempt just for good eye care. On my first day of trying to put in my contacts, I recall making a handful of jokes about needing an eyepatch in case I did it so wrong I was forever blind. An over exaggeration, obviously.

My eyes were red, and tears were running down my cheek in less than half an hour. But alas, I was successful. I got my contacts in. Now, the hard part was getting out. In all fairness, that was very likely the easiest part. After another short eye exam to see how they were adjusting, I was on my way, ready to start using them in a more of my everyday life.

Regardless, It was getting easier. A lot easier in fact. I didn't make any of the "rookie" mistakes like leaving them in when I shower or sleep. At times it was really easy getting them in and out, other times I found myself struggling for nearly half an hour just to get one in. At other times, it got harder getting them out. My eyes getting all sorts of red, and tears forming quickly as I tried to force the contact into the corner of my eye.

All in all. It's been a little bit of a struggle trying to adjust to these. But it's not as bad as I imagined it could have been. But I like the contacts, they are a nice change of pace compared to having to wear glasses every day for the past 6 or so years.

But, I suppose my only real concern with the contacts now? After I've adjusted that is... Is losing or breaking them. If I do, it's definitely a good thing that I always have my back glasses.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
