Even since I was little I dreamed of becoming a teacher. Not really sure why, but when other children were saying they wanted to become princesses or presidents, I simply said I wanted to teach. Maybe it was because my Pre-K teacher was so amazing or because that was the only job I really got to observe but ever since my first day of school, I knew I wanted to become a teacher.
Now, fifteen years later as I struggle through my first round of education classes, I am still 110% sure that teaching is the right job for me. Personally, I think teaching is the noblest and most important job, not because of having the summers off but because teachers are the ones who get the chance to make a lasting impact on your life.
Without teachers, how would people learn? Teachers are the ones who open the doors for us and explain the things that we couldn't possibly comprehend on our own. Teachers are the ones who care, even when it may appear that others don't.Teachers are not in it for the money, they are in it to make a difference, to change a life, and to educate the future.
The job is way more challenging than most people realize. Teachers have to put in many additional hours, ones that they are not compensated for, in order to make sure that each student is helped and reaching their full potential. They have to arrive early and stay late, attend sporting events and remember little details about each individual student's life.Teachers have to learn the fine line between teacher, parent figure and friend and make sure never to cross it. They have to continuously learn new material and better ways to engage the class as well as keep an eye out for any drastic changes in a child and know how to address those changes. They have to grade test and come up with alternative assignments to help those students who just can't seem to grasp the lesson. They have to find the perfect balance between textbook and life lessons. And, most importantly, they get to educate the future generation and make an impact on the lives of each student that is placed into their classroom.
Please, don't get me wrong, all jobs are important, but to teach is, in my humble opinion, the hardest and noblest job of all.
