". . . I believe it is good to look back on who you are in order to see the process of who you are now."

There is a time when you sit and reflect on the beautiful things in life. I do so almost every end of winter. The trees start to regrow leaves, the plants begin to bloom, and the smell of spring begins to settle in the air. As I do reflect upon such circumstances, I feel much more thankful for seeing this miraculous beauty of nature. It is just splendid to see. I did, however, find that I was stuck between changes, and that I was adulting.

It seems like life has been going smoothly in some way, yet there was some waves hitting the shores but being that beam of light has helped me figure myself out. In searching for myself, I found that I mostly needed adventures, memories, laughs – that is living to me. For example, going to Montauk with a few friends and climbing the freaking lighthouse! Or like going to Montreal and exploring it over and over and over again – especially in the winter. I have to say, I’ve become the person I want the world to see me as: Free. Respectful. Blessed. And happy.

I gave myself time to recover from the wounds of a war and grew from there. I allowed myself to take arms against a storm and end it. I created my own sense of direction with the trust that G-d will help and guide me towards him rather than further. That is one thing I did built from that war, faith. Faith is important to have, whether in times of darkness, times of need or times of happiness – only faith can help you see through life.

My advice to anyone is to live, laugh, grow and be happy. You create your own happiness by accepting the conflict, working that conflict and then moving forward. It is easier said than done, but losing yourself is a very easy thing to do. You have to constantly remind yourself who you are and what your goas are.

You can:

  1. Set future goals. Whether 24 or 48 hours goals, it is a step into getting what you want.
  2. Do something you would never do. I would never go to lunch alone and yet when I did, I found it more relaxing and didn’t need to put on a face.
  3. Do the things you love most, and then do the things you have to do.
  4. Smile. Through it all, you can just smile and know that the sun will rise and shine tomorrow.

I at least try to do this on a daily basis and so far, it has only brought light into my heart and positive thinking. We need to start thinking of what we want and how we can do it, but also not give in to the world’s wishes. With much love and devotion in our lives, we need to start working on spirit and mind.

Until next time, J.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Challah vs. Easter Bread: A Delicious Dilemma

Is there really such a difference in Challah bread or Easter Bread?

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
