The new Disney Channel, I think we can all agree, has turned to the bad side. With talking pets that have more popular blogs than I do and 13-year-old girls who are more successful than I am, these shows have gotten out of hand. And with the holidays rolling around, we must not forget the classics. And their very special Christmas episodes that came along with them.
5. "The Proud Family: Seven Days of Kwanzaa"
The Prouds were out and shopping for Christmas when they ran into a less fortunate family. They befriend one another, and reluctantly Oscar does too. But soon the other family teaches the Prouds, especially Oscar, their holiday of Kwanzaa.
4. "Even Stevens: Heck of a Hanukkah"
Branching away from the cliche Christmas episodes, here was a hit TV show that did a Hanukkah special. When Louis wishes he had never been born, remarkably similar to the wish Georgie Bailey made in "It's A Wonderful Life," an ancestor grants his wish. It teaches the importance of family and the infinite love of siblings through the hard times.
3. "That's So Raven: Escape Claus"
When Raven gets one of her famous visions of a Christmas present she's dying for in the mall, she chooses to skip with Chelsey and Eddie. The episode helps teach the true meaning of Christmas.
2. "Lizzie McGuire: Xtreme Xmas"
As Lizzie McGuire faces the competition for best float with the heinous Kate, she is visited by Santa's Elf who helps her through. (And even though the episode of Aaron Carter's "Coming to Town" is supposed to take place in the spring, that's still a solid episode. The episode is still a classic Christmas episode because he sings Christmas songs with Lizzie and Miranda. What a nice guy, am I right, ladies?)
1. "Suite Life of Zach and Cody: Christmas at the Tipton"
"Suite Life" had my personal favorite Christmas Special. With the witty idea to parody the Bible story of Jesus's birth, I found it enjoyable. But above all I loved the three-armed God-awful pink sweater London knit Maddie and the continuous effort of Cody to get his parents together again. Overall, I found this to be the most enjoyable special.
These holiday episodes taught kindness, selflessness, and the true meaning of the holidays. Why the holidays are so special and important is all demonstrated in these few episodes. I still find myself raiding the Internet for these few episodes every time December rolls around. If you haven't I advise you to. There just as much fun to watch, 12 years later.
