It's Time To Stop Backpedaling

I know I have backpedaled, along with many others around me. I see it happen all the time. Let's talk about it.

I'm not sure why it happens but sometimes people look back and think about their past relationships. They think about only the good times, even if they were few and far between. This causes us to backpedal and consider getting back together. It's time to break this habit and move on.

The problem with technology is that we are constantly connected to it. This means breakups are even harder to get over because we can see their every move. We forget about the reason that things did not work out with them and this is what I call “backpedaling.”

When we backpedal back to the person that made us unhappy or did not appreciate us enough, we close ourselves up to new people. Backpedaling can cause unhappiness and most importantly missed opportunities with others.

When you constantly go back to those people, you forget to look at the bigger picture. The two of you broke up for a reason. Rarely does anything change the second or third time you guys try to “work things out.” This just means more heartache and more time wasted that could have been spent being happy. There ARE people out there who will treat you better and that could be your soulmate. We need to stop wasting time on the fools who don’t appreciate our worth and spend more time bettering ourselves with people who are worth our time and effort.

1. Delete Your Ex From Your Social Media Accounts

The first step to breaking the cycle is to delete your ex off of social media while the break up is still fresh. If you can’t delete them off of social media for a variety of reasons there are ways to hide them so you can’t see them. On Twitter you can mute or block them and the same on Facebook. This prevents them from ever showing up on your feed - out of sight, out of mind.

2. Delete Your Ex's Number

The second step is to delete their number. For those who have their ex’s number memorized this may take a while to forget it. But that also means that you can’t just type their name anymore and have their number that easily. Also delete all of the text messages that have been sent and received. This stops you from crying while watching Dirty Dancing and reminiscing on the “good times” you had with them.

3. Think About Yourself

The third step is to think about yourself. Take a step back and realize what you want in life. Think about what kind of person you want to spend your life with and also take time to better yourself. Don’t waste time on losers who don’t treat you well or that aren’t going anywhere with their life. Move on from those people and find someone who only wants what is best for you.

So keep those losers who made you so unhappy in the past. Move on. Only pedal forward from now on, you’ll never realize how much happier you can be when you do.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
