With the start of September, only a few weeks after beginning classes, comes the busiest and most exciting time of the year: fall rush.
While it’s now time for the majority of the Inter Fraternity Council (IFC) to scout for their new pledge classes, this week also marks rush season for the fraternities and sororities in the Multicultural Greek Council (MGC).
For the girls who may have missed out on the opportunity to rush the Panhellenic (PC) sororities, or even if you are still unconvinced about going Greek, stop and consider what MGC Greek life may have to offer with these top reasons to rush.
The bonds. When they say sisterhood or brotherhood is forever, it’s true. After meeting
and talking with only a few people, the genuine and tight knit bonds they share will
become apparent. This underlying unity applies not only to individual chapters, but to MGC as a whole. Each organization knows and works closely with its respective
ones. They also hold very close ties and regularly visit and host their chapters
from outside schools, an aspect which is rarely seen in any of the other Greek
councils.
The experience. The MGC experience is a dynamic and unique process where you will grow,
discover, and be the best version of yourself. It’s not letters that make you
better, it’s the character and values you show.
Culture. Between 13 diverse organizations, there’s one for everyone whether you are Asian, South
East Asian, Hispanic, black, or white. Despite your background, none of these
organizations are exclusive and anyone can join. You can embrace and
explore a different culture you never thought you would have before!
Size. Rushing
from house to house full of 100, or more, sisters or brothers can look and feel intimidating
to anyone. However, MGC chapters and pledge classes consist of smaller groups
of quality individuals, making rush easier and geared towards you. Typically
with pledge classes of over 100 new members, it’s also nearly impossible to know
everyone. With smaller classes and chapters, you are able to genuinely know and
build much more personal connections with people.
New member presentations and nicknames. Many rush in anticipation of reveal day. After the end of the rush season, it is tradition for some chapters to present
their new members in a showcase. Basically, this is your public debut in your particular
sorority or fraternity. New members are proud to show off their given nicknames
during their reveal speech and love to show off a few dance moves. Don’t
pass up the chance to go if you get to!
Lower cost. Don’t
really want to pay the high price of dues that come with joining a PC or IFC
sorority or fraternity? MGC dues are nowhere near as expensive and are affordable.
On the plus side, rush is totally free! No registration fee is required and all
events are free with no obligation to join. So, what’s the hesitation? Just
come out and see what these organizations can offer you!
