Life: as told by Lana del Rey

Finding deeper meaning in her lyrics...or not.

Life: as told by Lana del Rey

When everyone went to ACL, I had a lot of time to contemplate the meaningful, and often confusing lyrics, of one of my favorite artists: Lana del Rey.

Here are a few lyrics taken from a variety of her songs and underneath is a possible meaning:

Walked into the room you know you made my eyes burn.

It was like, James Dean, for sure.

  • Ouch, what an awful sensation. Ladies, if this guy is causing physical pain, he might be the one. Heck, he might even be James Dean in the flesh.

Stealin' police cars with the senior guys.

Teachers said we'd never make it out alive.

  • Well, if you’re looking for a thrill apparently stealing cop cars with the older guys is a thing.

Think I'll miss you forever.

Like the stars miss the sun in the morning sky.

  • Woah guys, we are getting deep. The celestials have feelings—this is all too much emotion for me to handle right. On the bright side, the sun will be back tomorrow, and so will your guy.

In the land of Gods and Monsters, I was an Angel.

  • Lana del Rel has obviously been studying the theory of reincarnation. No wonder you’re upset. You went from having wings to having to walk on two feet. I feel for you.

And if you call, I'll run, run, run,

If you change your mind, I'll come, come, come.

  • Okay, got it girl. If he calls, I’m hitting the bear trail but if he changes his mind, (because I can read minds), I’ll show up at his place.  #OnPoint

My father's love was always strong,

My mother's glamour lives on and on,

Yet still inside I felt alone,

For reasons unknown to me.

  • I don’t know what to tell you… it sounds like you need a honey butter chicken biscuit.

I paint my nails black,

I dye my hair a darker shade of brown

'Cause you like your women Spanish, dark, strong and proud

  • MIND BLOWN. The second you paint your nails black, you are instantly transformed into Sofia Vergara. No guy will resist you.

Sun in my mouth and gold hoops,

You like your little baby,

Like you like your drinks cool.

  •  If the sun was in my mouth I would be running to the hospital… that doesn’t sound very cool and I don’t think your “James Dean” finds that cool either especially if he’s going in for a kiss.

People never die in Miami,

Ooh, that's what they all say.

  • WHAAAATTTTTT????!!!??!?! People in Miami are immortal? Why am I just hearing about this? Guys, we gotta get over there now.

You are invincible.

I can't break through your world.

Is he from Miami?

You're a hard man to love and I'm a hard woman to keep track of

You like to rage, don't do that.

  • Words of wisdom from Lana, double standards are OK. If your guy can’t keep track of you, it’s ok to get mad at him if he’s out having a good time.

No other boy ever made me feel beautiful,

When I'm in your arms, feels like I have it all,

Is it your tattoos or golden grill, That makes me feel this way?

  • If the tattoos and the golden grill got you feeling some type of way, HE’S THE ONE.
Used to say that I was beautiful, Like Cleopatra,

But you the king too so I would say, "Back at'cha!"

  • If a guy calls you beautiful and compares you to a queen, tell him “you too”, because what guy doesn’t want to be called a beautiful queen.
He prays for love, he prays for peace,

And maybe someone new.

  • By all means, stay with this guy if you know he’s praying for someone new.
I've got feathers in my hair I get down to Beat poetry

And my jazz collection's rare

I can play most anything

I'm a Brooklyn baby I'm a Brooklyn baby

  • Jazz, feathers, beat poetry and everything nice bad, this is the recipe to be a Brooklyn baby. That, or it might just be a lot easier to fake your birth certificate..

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Whether you met your new love interest online, through mutual friends, or another way entirely, you'll definitely want to know what you're getting into. Consider these 21 questions to ask in the talking stage when getting to know that new guy or girl you just started talking to:

Challah vs. Easter Bread: A Delicious Dilemma

Is there really such a difference in Challah bread or Easter Bread?

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
