There is a new virus that is starting to spread in the United States causing many people to join in the war against mosquitos. The Zika virus is caused by mosquito bites. The first signs of the virus started in Africa way back in 1957 and has been a small threat to people ever since; however, we are starting to see a higher trend of the virus in places like North and South America. This has alerted local families to start calling mosquito companies and spray away the pesky little bugs to oblivion. But what really is the Zika virus? Is it as serious as malaria, or something that is just hyped up to be something serious? Well I'll give you the information, and you can determine yourself if you think it's worth to be paranoid about it.
Symptoms
If you happen to be bitten by a mosquito carrying the Zika virus, then you might feel some of these pains. These symptoms last just a little less than a week and include having a fever, rash, pain in joints and red eyes. Most of the time you will not get most of the symptoms when you get the virus, but you may feel a little sick.
How to know you have the Zika virus
The Zika virus doesn't have any substantial symptoms that will alert you if you have been affected, but if you seem to get sick right after being bit by a mosquito, then you probably have the Zika virus. The only true way you can know if you have the Zika virus is by laboratory results of the virus in your blood stream and doctors can see the Zika RNA present, but other than that, there really is no real way to tell normally.
Treatment
If you do discover that you have the Zika virus, it is really easy to treat. You can take some medicine like pain killers and get lots of rest. As of right now, there exists no cure for the Zika virus.
Is it dangerous?
So far, there have been no serious cases of the Zika virus and seems to be pretty mild. However, just like with all viruses, they can evolve to resist our immune systems, becoming a stronger strand. But for now, it seems like it's okay.
Well, those are the basic things you need to know about this virus. I wouldn't be too afraid of it if I were you, but you never know. This could be the virus that wipes out the human race.
