A Letter To Rising Juniors

Yup, you're getting up there.

A Letter To Rising Juniors

Dear No Longer Underclassmen,

It seems like it was just yesterday when we were all stepping foot onto the Quad as we melted in the summer sun moving into our first college living spaces of either Regis, Jogues, Campion or Gonzaga. Freshman year quickly came to an end and we were headed to the Village to enjoy Kostka and Claver living (unless you were an unlucky one who managed an awful lottery number and got stuck living in the Quad a second year in a row. It's OK, it happens to the best of us).

Sophomore year was one we never wanted to end and when we all truly came together as a family. No longer were we in the stage of awkwardly making friends and meeting new people, it no longer matters what friend group you were in or where you're from. If you like to have a good time, we like you. The school work certainly kicked up as we sadly waved goodbye to our intro-level courses and now entered the scary territory of 200 and worse, 300-level courses. We do not mind, though, because we work hard when we need to, securing our graduate income over Yale University while we play even harder on the weekends.

The year came to and end and many were torn as they entered into their college mid-life crisis, but that is OK! We are now on our way to being the head of campus. We are now about to be behind those townhouse walls we always struggle to make our way to and from on the weekends as we simply wished they were just ours already. We can now legally have our cars on campus and not have to worry about $500 worth of parking tickets in a single semester from public safety, because we want our car and will park it where we please anyway. We will never have to rely on the older kids to throw down because now you can in your own townhouse. You will no longer be the one to get kicked out because that older kid said so. Now you will kick out or let in whoever you want, but hopefully we are over that nonsense. Those that are old enough can finally enjoy the Grape, because sneaking in last year just never really worked out. Once again, the year will end just as quickly as it came and you will be a rising senior on your way to the beach.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
