As I woke up this morning, I was greeted with notifications of my friends all tweeting about the same subject, and many Facebook articles about the same thing. In Baton Rouge, a black man was shot. Continue scrolling: Dallas, Texas, another shooting and more lives lost. With no knowledge, I start scrolling through and seeing these posts, and feel horrid for the victims of the families of these fallen officers. They won't get the chance to see their loved one again. Their loved one walked out the door to protect their city and will not return because of two snipers who decided to kill. Prior to this, the entire #BlackLivesMatter movement is happening and causing a stir nationwide.
Today, on our travel to Florida, we decided to visit the Pulse Nightclub much like many others did about a month ago. However, they were expecting a fun time and memories, we came to see the tragedy that had ensued on those people a month ago. We had the chance to see the sight for our own eyes. Granted, it was a month later, so the sight wasn't as gruesome. The club was blocked off, they have cops around to keep the order, and memorials were hung across the barricades and fencing surrounding the nightclub.
You could literally feel your heart drop as soon as you laid eyes on the club. You can just imagine hearing the screams of pain, the phones ringing with fearful calls, and so many other horrific things that happened on that gruesome night a month ago. It hurt to breathe thinking about how those poor innocent souls won't get the chance to be themselves again, and some don't get the chance to live their lives again. Many tears were shed, but the impact it had on me will never be forgotten. I stand with you, Orlando.
Everything happening is causing a war, invoking a reaction, starting a fight, creating more violence and leading into the greatest downfall that the country has yet to rid itself of: War. War on race, religion, sexuality, gender, actual war, anything. These fights are ripping the community apart and tearing people away from people they love just because of their views and many things. Friendships are ending, lives are being lost. The odds are not in our favor, America.
At this rate, by the end of 2016, the country is going to collapse in on itself because of the 'fight violence with violence' tactic people are using.
My friends, where did the love go? Better yet, was it even here?
All I've heard on FB lately is ''check your privilege," and "BlackLivesMatter, not #AllLivesMatter," but my question is "where is the love?" I'm not here to tell you your views on this subject, or enforce mine upon you. I'm here to tell you it's time to share the love we have in our daily lives. We are a community of people who rally behind things we really care about, but why can't we spread that love across more areas? With more love, there would be less hate. Our country is taking on the battle that was never resolved in the years prior. We are having all of these talks and trying to make sure the voices are heard, but they continue to fight with violence? Share your love with your friends, your enemies, and anyone you can share it with. You never will truly know who needs it.
Spread love and find ways to help put out the fire, not fuel it.
