To The Youth Group On A Mission:
Instagram likes are cool, but now a day it seems that is all mission trips ever are. We get caught up in buying t-shirts to support others mission trips and thinking how many likes we will get on social media rather than the true meaning behind the mission. I go on mission trips to impact lives, not through my own strength, but though what God leads me to do. I am not saying you have to travel around the world to change someone’s life; the true mission is starting right here at your home.
I came into my group not knowing who Jesus was, but little did I know my life was about to change because of this one youth group. I was scared and confused at first, but through the years, this youth group has helped form me into the woman I am today. I have seen first hand that this youth group changes lives. From God leading them to help change my own heart, to witnessing the changing of hearts in others when I was able to intern for them this summer. If these kids that are just in high school can change my life, the amount of people that they will help bring to the Lord throughout the world is limitless.
I hope that their hearts are wrecked, and they can only rely on Jesus to pick them back up. I hope there are moments when they are sitting and laughing, they just stop for a second, smile up at God and thank Him for one of the best blessings that some call “Nitro”.
Most of all, while they are sharing the gospel and happiness to others, I hope they internalize the message for themselves. This life should be used serve and rejoice in our awesome God.
So maybe we aren’t going across country, maybe we don’t have mission shirts to sell, and maybe we won't get as many likes on our Instagram posts, but does any of that even matter? The point of this life we call a mission is not to glorify ourselves and what we are doing for others, but instead to glorify our God. The fact that He sent His one and only son to die for people as foolish as we are is reason enough to give Him everything. The point of the mission is to take the spotlight off of us and point it to the cross.
“Jesus said to them again, ‘Peace be with you. As the Father has sent me, even so I am sending you.’”
John 20:21
