Airports are a metaphor for our journey. A metaphor for our lives.
We all are born arriving at the airport. Some of us know where it is we're going, what we're going to do in and or with our life. Some of us have an idea of where we're going or what we're doing; no set plan we're just taking it one day at a time.
And some of us, well we're just going along for the ride; we're not sure what we want to do with our life; maybe taking a trip somewhere for fun.
Whether it be seeking a journey of love, a journey to see old friends, a journey to find who we are, a journey that may not even have any end or true purpose, but just a journey through life to see where it takes us. We're all on a journey. We all are headed to and or have different destinations and different reasons and a different purpose; for example, traveling in an airport. We're all headed to different locations, but all on our own journeys. A trip through life.
Another reason I believe an airport is a perfect metaphor for us and our journey through life is because like an airport, as in life we pass by hundreds and thousands if not millions of people in our life.
But what if out of all those people we've passed by in our life, we've passed by each other countless times already?
What if I told you you've seen that person before. Or even interacted with that person before. Would you believe me?
-Probably not.
How could you have known? Would you have remembered is an even better question.
And now you're probably saying, "There are too many people to count that travel and pass by me while I'm at the airport. How am I suppose to remember or know who I saw?"
-Fair enough
But what if I told you those people were on a journey just like you. Would it change your thought process and the way you see these other people? Or would it allow you to pay more attention to who you see and or where they're going?
Would you go out of your way to meet someone new or interact with someone who is sitting next to you on a plane or someone sitting next to you waiting to board the same plane?
- One would wonder...
What if that person you sat next to on the airplane was someone you met again years later or months later. Would you remember that person?
What if I told you that he or she was already a part of your life (journey) once before? It would put a whole different meaning to your journey and or purpose.
I believe things happen for a reason and we meet people to interact and play a certain role and or purpose in our life. Things happen for a reason and at the right time.
-Now keep that in mind.
Let's put a twist on this, though. What if I told you things happen for a reason only because it is supposed to happen a SPECIFIC WAY.
Naturally as humans, we would fight it.
- I know I would.
So with this said, what is normal. What is the norm? Who said things have to be a certain way? Or that you have to be a certain way? What if you don't want to be that way? Or see things "That way."
-WHY?
Your thoughts should be this.
Our journey is never constant. (Our life is never constant, the same) It is forever changing. Nothing in this world is the same. People change, buildings change, companies change, surroundings change, trees change each season.
- HELL. Even our bodies change!
So how could one's life not change? I believe each and every person we meet and or passes by, some way shape or form plays a role and a specific part in our lives (our journey). They help make us who we are and or create the path that we have and are on.
Like the airport. We never know who is going to come into our lives; be it a future lover, a new best friend, someone passing by. We don't know. So why not take the time to be more aware of who is in our lives. Why not look at it as more of a learning or even teaching process, rather than regret.
He or she could very well help prepare you for whatever it is you're facing in your life right now. Be open and be aware and look. Keep your eyes open. Look at each event in your life as having more reason and purpose, rather than look at it as hatred or regret.
"Don't forget to stop and smell the roses" or you just might miss something, or better yet, someone. It's your future and your journey. Why not be more open and willing to learn than be closed off.
You'll never know what you've missed until it's too late.
