Life is a funny thing. You go to school starting when you are five years old and stop going to school when you’re 22 years old. Seventeen years of school, different levels of educations, different buildings, and different friends. The sad part is that once you are in high school, everything becomes harder. Schoolwork, relationships and friendships become extremely difficult. At the end of high school, goodbyes become regular once everyone leaves to go to college. But one thing makes these times better, and that is a reason to come home.
Your best friend from high school will be the number one reason to visit other schools, come home for breaks, and make the most out of your years together. Your best friend from high school will know you at your most vulnerable points and still love you. Your best friend from high school will encourage you to take risks, try new things, and test all boundaries. Your best friend from high school will make you cry, laugh, and cry because you are laughing so hard. Your best friend from high school will always have your back no matter what colleges or paths you two embark on. Your best friend from high school will always be your best friend.
Your best friend from high school helped shape the person you are today. You have the best and the worst memories with this best friend, thus further solidifying your relationship. Your best friend from high school supported you through the times you never imagined were possible and you supported them all the same.
For all these reasons and more, your high school best friend will always be your best friend.
College separates these friends. Sometimes people are fortunate enough to stay in the same state as their best friend, let alone the same school. But as the saying goes, “Distance makes the heart grow fonder." This constant distance for four years, as opposed to seeing your best friend every day during high school, can put a strain on your relationship. But that distance will make you appreciate this friendship more than you thought you could. You’ll remember the first time you fell in love -- your best friend witnessed it. You’ll remember your first alcoholic drink -- your best friend condoned it. You’ll remember the first time you cried over a broken heart -- your best friend’s shoulder was your safe zone. You’ll remember the craziest stories of your high school career -- your best friend was by your side the whole time.
For these memories and for many more to become, my best friend from high school will always be my best friend.
