I just got home from a mission trip to Collinsville, Illinois to put on a multi-site vacation Bible school. While I was there, I met a group of teens who came to see what we were doing. As I started talking to them, I asked them if I could share my story of my walk with Christ with them. After I did, my youth pastor told them that everyone sins, and because we all sin God sent Jesus to die on the cross to save us from those sins. He also told them that if they were to believe in Jesus' death and resurrection, they too can be saved. As he shared the last part of the message, one of the teens said, "Yeah, but I just can't stop sinning."
Throughout my life, I've had numerous people tell me that they were too big of sinners to be Christians or that they would become one once they were back on track with their lives and out of the low point they were in. However, the beauty and reality of Christianity is that if we were all perfect, there would be no point in it.
Jesus didn't die a horrible and painful death to save us so that once we believed in Him we could become perfect. The reality is even the strongest Christians struggle with sin. There is no one on Earth that could be a perfect person, because we're all human. The chances are that if you're in a low point in your life and you feel hopeless, that is the perfect time to accept Christ. So many people put Christians down because they make mistakes just like everyone else because they confuse Christianity for being nothing more than a list of rules telling people what they can and can't do.
If you believe Christianity is just about focusing on not sinning, you have completely missed the point. Stop wallowing in your sin! Christianity is about having a deep relationship with Christ and being completely in love with Him. If you focus on your sin, you're more likely to keep committing the same acts over and over and you will never overcome them. However, if you focus all of your time and energy on Christ, you won't even think about what you've been struggling with. I'm not saying you'll never sin again, because as I said before, it's impossible to be perfect. I'm just saying it'll be much easier to resist the temptation of your sin.
There is not a single person in this world that isn't struggling with some type of sin. It is impossible to live a sinless life, which is why God sent Jesus, who knew no sin, to die for us. Everyone has done wrong, but it is your decision on how you wish to deal with your wrongdoings. Every sin has consequences, but if you chose to live for Jesus, you can be forgiven and spent eternity with Jesus.
Always remember, you are always loved by Jesus. If you put your hope in Christ, I promise you will feel a love and security that you have never experienced before. There's no pressure to be perfect, because it is an impossible goal. If you know you're struggling with sin, talk to Jesus about it. He will never fail you.
