On May 6th, 2016 at approximately 11:45 am, I completed my sophomore year of college. How did two years of my life fly by so quickly? It only felt like yesterday I had moved into my freshman (a sophomore) dorm and was beginning life on my own. Part of me is elated that I am halfway finished with college and the other...well, let's just say she isn't thrilled. Why? Halfway done means I am that much closer to never having to attend school again, who wouldn't be happy about that? The louder, other half of me is yelling that it's too soon and I'm not ready to be an adult!
I realize now that this is the time for me to truly grow as individual. I wish I was talking physically because being five feet tall is a real struggle sometimes. No, I'm talking mentally, emotionally, and with my overall maturity. I must begin to think hard about what I want as my given career field as my degree provides me with multiple directions I could choose from. Continue to strive for better and bigger things within what I have accomplished such as earning a starting spot on the field hockey team or earning an editorial position for our university newspaper. I should be landing an internship and begin working in my career field early and making connections for the future.
However, we must not forget to reflect on the wonderful times that my first two years have brought me. Winning a national championship, getting my first written pieces published on a well-known blog, and a growth in confidence that I did not know I had within me. It has brought people into my life for better and for worse, but each a lesson or friend that I made memories with that I will never forget. Some are friends for life and who I can count on through thick and thin.
Never take your early years of college for granted. They're the ones that build a foundation for the rest of your life. You begin to find your way in life one baby step at a time and meet some pretty great people and score great opportunities along the way. So long, freshman and sophomore year me, look out for the new and improved college junior coming your way.
