"I'm Gonna Be (500 Miles)" by The Proclaimers
A road trip classic ever since How I Met Your Mother’s infamous episode where Ted and Marshall can only listen to this song over and over again, it’s the perfect amp up song if you’re traveling, oh I don’t know, 500 miles?
"Come on Eileen" by Dexys Midnight Runners
I have a theory that you literally cannot be unhappy while listening to this song. I also have a theory that if you actually know the words to this song you for sure looked them up and are ruining the fun of mumbling the song no one else knows the words to.
"Five More Hours" by Deorro x Chris Brown
This song is perfect for when you have five more hours left in your trip, are already tired, and need a song that can amp you up while going down the same road you’ve been on for an hour already.
"Long Cool Woman" in a Black Dress by The Hollies
Looking to throw it back with an old school jam? This 70’s hit is all smooth riding, which is hopefully what your trip will be. If not, at least you are listening to a good song.
"Life Is A Highway" by Rascal Flatts
Another road trip classic, Life Is A Highway is that song you don’t realize you are singing until all of the sudden you are belting it and everyone is annoyed (see: The Office episode where Michael Scott plays this song on repeat). Even though the movie "Cars" seemed to give this song an obnoxious rep, it’s a must have on your road trip playlist.
"Old Thing Back" ft. Ja Rule and Ralph Tresvant by Matoma
If you are looking for some old school hip hop mixed with new school DJ styles, this song is for you. Not only does this song have THE Notorious B.I.G. sampling, but also some killer saxophone in the background that is sure to add some pep into your car ride.
"The Hills" by The Weeknd
If you are driving through hills and such, you can gaze out the window (unless you’re driving, then hey! Eyes on the road), look at those rolling hills and know that even though The Weeknd for sure was not taking about hills on a road trip when he wrote this song, it still fits to theme.
"Somewhere In My Car" by Keith Urban
A country jam that is much needed at all times, because let’s be honest, you’re in a car, Keith Urban is in a car-- what could be more perfect road trip material?
"Inside Out" by Eve 6
I’m suggesting this song because you most likely won’t recognize it upon the name and artist, but once the chorus comes on, you will be immersed in all that was your late middle school days. You’re welcome.
"Fast Car" by Tracy Chapman
Another fitting tune for car rides, "Fast Car" is a smooth tune featuring a soulful voice that is sure to coast you down any road you need to travel. One thing I do have to mention are the terrible driving habits mentioned in this song. If you are relating to the line “speed so fast felt like I was drunk” maybe switch up your driving technique.
" Miracle Mile" by Cold War Kids
A great end of the road trip tune where you can feel the end of the drive coming and can see the bright light of your destination in the distance, this song revives your energy and gets you through the last (miracle) mile.
