Your Number Doesn't Define You

Society labels girls and women in such a degrading way when it comes down to the number of men or boys they've had sex with

Society has a habit of putting a label on everyone and in a way, it seems to be an issue. For instance, the label of calling girls a slut or a whore is, to me, unnecessary. Why? I hate to say, but girls have feelings too and they have a reasoning for what they do if you think about it. Society praises boys and men for sleeping with a girl, but when a girl has sex, it’s viewed as a problem. I honestly find it beyond disrespectful when guys, especially those who choose to put their dick in a girl, call them a slut or a whore. How is that fair at all? Would you, sir, like being called a manwhore? No, I don’t think so.

“Okay, but she’s slept with that guy and that other guy. The list goes on.”

How is that any of your business though? Who are you to judge? I will admit I’ve had my moments as well where I’ve called someone a whore or a slut, but then I realized how hurtful it was and secondly, I don’t have room to talk because I’ve done things that weren’t viewed okay to do in society’s eyes either. People don’t stop to think about that either.

You don’t have room to talk, and respect is still important. Don’t be a hypocrite.

If a girl is in her double digits already, then so what? It still doesn’t give you the right to judge. I’ve noticed that people, guys especially, don’t exactly keep their sex life quiet and have a habit boasting about what girl they slept with the night before. Now, don’t get me wrong. Not all guys are like this, yes, but that’s where the ones that do this kind of stuff give boys and men a bad title or label as well.

“Oh, he’s a fuckboy. He just wants to get in my pants.”

You see my issue here?

Now, some girls do sleep with multiple guys for a reason and honestly? Not one single girl has to justify that to you whatsoever as to why she does that. It’s not always about putting yourself out either. At the end of the day, no one has to explain themselves ever unless they want to. To the girls that sleep with multiple guys, you’re human and a person, too. You have feelings and they’re just as valid as anyone else’s and you do not deserve that label. Also, your number does not define you. I’ve really thought about this lately because words do hurt. They truly do. I’ve been quite hypocritical myself, but I learned that the hard way on this topic.

Now, even girls that have slept with only one or two guys even get called a slut as well. That’s just as unfair. For example, an ex-boyfriend who was a girl’s first went through a messy breakup and may be mad about not getting his way with something in the relationship feels entitled to be disrespectful and talk down on his ex-girlfriend by calling her a slut. I’ve also noticed when a guy also doesn’t get his way in sex or views a girl as a slut, he treats them like they’re an object or as I’d say talk about them like they are one.

“Yeah, that pussy, though.”

Seriously?

There’s more to life than having sex though if you think about it. It’s sad that it’s something some people are so dead focused on doing in their lives. Again, though, there’s nothing wrong with having sex, but why does it have to be such a big ass deal when a girl fucks it gets around in such a bad way. As for the guy, though, it’s just another night of “fun” to discuss. Double standards are such a big issue especially in college. I may sound like an angry elf writing all of this, but it’s only because this should be addressed more. Even guys who view a girl as “easy” also target them and that’s where it’s scary because if a guy talks about getting with this girl another night and gives this label on her about how easy she is, it in a way, puts bad imaging in other boys’ or men’s minds about that girl meaning “oh, maybe she’ll want me too then.”

That’s sad.

Why? Because not every girl wants to fuck every guy on the planet and that’s where the rape issue comes in. Some guys target girls that are viewed as easy and when they come on to her it’s supposedly because, “Well she went after my friend, so basically I’m going to get some tonight, too.” What happens when she rejects you though? Not all guys handle rejection well apparently and don’t get that no is no. Now, whether she may have slept with your brother or your other friend, too, no is clearly no jesus christ. Again, not all guys are rapists. Not all guys are disrespectful to women, but the ones that do? You ruin it for us girls because some of us tend to believe that all men are the same for a reason. Us women are entitled to having freedom with our bodies. Screw you society.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
