Imagine this: you go to the store and you pick out a bag of jellybeans. You get home and pour the bag all over the counter, looking for your favorite flavor. You see that only a small fraction of the bag is your favorite flavor, and the rest are ones you wouldn't dare to taste. Not to be cheesy, but compare this to your life. When you are all done on this earth and you are looking back on your days, do you want to see days you fell in love with, or ones you hated with all of your heart? That shouldn't even be a question, of course you want your whole bag of days to be full of ones you are proud of.
The Time You Have (in Jellybeans) is most definitely a video that EVERYONE needs to see. I was shown this video by a high school math teacher, and even though I didn't fully grasp the message at first, it has truly changed the way I desire to act on a daily basis. The guy in the video uses jellybeans to represent days, and shows the audience how many free days we have that are up to us. We are given so many opportunities to make these days be our favorite flavors in a bag of jellybeans, we just need to make sure we do so.
We are the creators of our bags of jellybeans; we are the only people that decide what goes into them. It is all in our hands how good or bad our bags turn out to be. Waking up every morning, what kind of person do you want to be? I know that I want to spread kindness and love wherever my life takes me. I want people who don't know what kindness feels like to have the chance to feel it deeply. I want to serve others and put them before myself. I want my bag to be full of days where I was selfless and allowed other people to have great days. I want to have days full of adventure. I want to get off of my phone and see everything this world has to offer. I want to look back and be proud of all of the exploring I did. Happiness is important too. I want my bag to overflow with happy days. Not fake happiness, but pure, genuine happiness. Days where my cheeks hurt from smiling too much. Days I wish would have never ended. I want to have days shared with other people. I want to make connections with all kinds of people. I want to get to know others and help them in any way I can. I want to feel satisfied with my bag of jellybeans; I want it to be full of my favorite flavors.
We are given so many days to make amazing. Instead of waking up and letting negativity drag you down, wake up and let it inspire you to be optimistic. Instead of wasting your time worrying about other people, worry about yourself because some people are meant to only be temporary in your life. Let go of things and people that are not making you happy. Instead of being jealous of others learn to be happy for them. Live your life the way it is meant to be lived!
Just remember that YOU are in full control of your bag of jellybeans. Everyday you are given the chance to do something meaningful; even if it is as little as smiling at a stranger. Fill your bag up with days you did something to be proud of. Make sure that bag is filled with good flavors.
P.S.: Next time you look at a bag of jellybeans, please don't make it this complicated!
