Why Your Family Should Be Your Priority

Take a minute and think about it. Who is always there for you? who is always just a phone call away when you need them at any hour of the day? Who has known you longest and loved you most, flaws and all? Who accepts you for who you are and appreciates everything that you do? Who are the people that you really cannot pick, but are still the most amazing people in your life?

Your family.

I am big on my family. My family comes first, and is more important to me than one could imagine. I believe that many people take their family for granted, especially young adults like myself who get so caught up in their own life that they forget about the people who would do anything for them.

There are so many things to thank your family for. But most importantly, thank them for just being them and for being a part of you that you may just be stuck with, but make life worth living. The ones who you have celebrated every Birthday, Thanksgiving, Christmas, and other major holidays with.

Do not forget about your family. They are your day ones, the ones that they get you through the pain, and support you more than you realize. They deserve more credit than most get.

Call your aunt and tell her you love her. Go visit your grandparents every time you are home. Make time to catch up with your cousins. Treat your parents to dinner every now and then. Make sure to stay connected with your siblings; they really are your best friends in the end.

So to all the people who are big family people as myself, do not take them for granted. Your family should be your number one priority and should be involved in every big moment in your life. Many of you do not realize how truly blessed you are to have them, so begin to realize now before it is too late.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
