Between classes, studying, and extracurricular activities, a college student doesn't have too much time. That's why keeping in touch with your best friends from home can be so difficult. You're no longer a ten minute drive away or a walk down the block. You're state lines away and there are hundreds of miles of distance between you now.
You text and Snapchat every day and are still each other's number one fans on all social media outlets, but so much time apart can feel so distant. And all though it's hard and you may only see them on holiday breaks, when you get back together and see each other, it oddly seems like nothing has even changed. They catch you up on everything in their lives as you talk about the town gossip and latest scandal in your graduating class.
But other than being your best friend, they will always be your home. They will always remind you of how you were before, and congratulate you on how far you've gone. They have witnessed all your milestones and your achievements and see how much more you're doing in college. They know of all your hardships and past problems, and therefore completely know where you're coming from when you have those tough days in college, and you don't have to give them any backstory.
They know you like the back of their own hand, and there is something entirely comforting that someone will always know you and be there for you. They say friends for seven or more years will be your friends for a lifetime and it's true. With so many years, you grow so much, learn so many things, and even change. But, they've seen it all and been through it with you, and that's why they are so special.
So next time you're a little down at school or having a bad day, the best therapy can be a quick call to your friend from home. They'll tell you all about their lives and you get so caught up in their stories that you forget about your troubles. They tell you to eat some chocolate and assure you everything will be okay. They will then continue to send you the most ridiculous and insanely hilarious snapchats with every single emoji out there, until you forget what you were even upset about in the beginning.
Because no matter how awkward or weird you were back then, they stuck with you through it all. And that's why one day you'll see them standing behind you on your wedding day, supporting you like they always have.
