Your Breakup Could Be the Best Thing Ever
Katie Hall

I recently went through a breakup. This boy was my everything. He and I dated for two years. We had talked about getting married. We knew how many kids we wanted, where we wanted to live, we had our whole future mapped out. Then one day, things just weren’t the same. It just didn’t fit anymore. There was no drama, we just didn’t click. It’s been a month now. The first day after the breakup all I could think about was how my future, my dream life, had been shot to hell. I wanted to drink wine and stay in bed all day. But then the breakup turned into one of the best things that had ever happened to me. I rediscovered my passion and zeal for life. I learned who I was as a person and I liked who I saw. Here’s why your breakup could be the best thing that happens to you.

You’ll learn who your real friends are:

Lots of the time you and your significant other share the same friend group, or at least have a few friends in common. After a breakup though, you’ll learn who actually cares about you. All this love you didn’t know existed will come pouring in from people who genuinely care about your well being. And people don’t have to pick sides. Friends can love and support both parties and that’s how it should be. But all the love you receive after a breakup can remind you that you matter to people and that you are valued.

You’ll learn who you are as a person again:

More often than not, people lose themselves to a relationship. They are half of a whole. Of course they retain some of their personality and their hobbies, but it’s easy to get caught up in being with a significant other and accepting their hobbies as your own. After a breakup though, you rediscover things you had forgotten you loved about yourself. Your dance parties to silly pop music start happening again. You have your girls nights. You discover the strength inside you you didn’t know was there but now can’t believe you forgot about. You rediscover the inner bada** that was always there, the person who just fell by the wayside for a bit.

You’ll meet new people:

Whether it’s the people you meet on your girls night out or the cute boy next to you in class you never talked to out of respect to you S.O., you’ll meet a ton of new people once the ice cream and Netflix phase of the breakup ends. You’ll find single friends to be single with and couples who give you #goals to look up to.

You realize that everything will be okay:

You may not get over your breakup in a week. Or a month. Or a year. And that’s okay. You can take however much time you need. But realizing that everything will be okay early on is essential. Getting back out into the world and experiencing all the love and adventures life has to offer is what is going to make the breakup fade into the back of your mind. You got this.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
