Here's a toast to the good and the bad.

Your Best Friend Deserves a Thank You

Everyone in your life has a title. Whether it be your boyfriend, parent, teacher, or coach, they all play a specific role in your life. Some may be more important than others, and some might be more known than others. Your best friend just may take the cake in playing the most important role in your life. Think about it. Through everything you go through, your best friend is there for it all. Maybe she was right there next to you during it, being your right-hand-man, or maybe she lived vicariously through the story you told her right after it happened. Best friends need more credit than they're given.

I know, I know. We thank our best friends every day, but, we always forget to thank them for the little things. The things we don't even think to say thank you for. We may thank our best friends for always being there and listening to you vent about your boy issues, or for always being down to brunch. We may even thank them for just being your best friend, but lets think of all the things your best friend REALLY deserves to be thanked for.

Thank you for graciously handling me when I'm snappy from lack of sleep.

Best friends were created to tackle all-nighters with you. When you waited until the last minute to study for an exam and you only have one night to cram information into your brain, staying up until the crack of dawn seems a whole lot more fun with your best friend by your side. It's always nice to have someone to get donuts at five in the morning as a reward for staying up all night. Donuts make for a happy soul, but all-nighters make for a grumpy day and, if you're as lucky as me, your best friend knows the perfect remedy to get you smiling again.

Thank you for lying to me when I needed it.

So what if my life is falling apart right in front of me? My best friends are always there to distract me from the fact. When you're heartbroken, furious, crushed, or embarrassed, your best friend has never failed to make you feel better- even if it means telling little white lies to make us realize how awesome we actually are.

Thank you for always laughing with me. Thank you even more for always laughing at me.

It's just a general rule that your best friend has to laugh around you. At you, or with you, you can always count on your best friend on being there to laugh at the circumstance. Awkward moments are inevitable and if you're like me, you probably embarrass yourself more times than you'd like to admit. If it hasn't come already, there will be a time when you make an absolute fool of yourself and your best friend will be there to laugh her butt off about it- thank her for that. Her laughing may make you want to scream, but it cuts the tension and gives you a minute to laugh at yourself and shrug it off. She's ultimately doing you a huge favor, and you know you would do the same to her.

Thank you for all the times we irritate each other.

What's a friendship that doesn't have any arguments? An unhealthy one. Best friends are always going to be the first person that annoys you. Why? Because they are the ones that aren't afraid to push you where you need to be. They have your best interest at heart, and regardless what you think, their intentions are only meant to better you. You may think you know what's best for you, but your best friend really knows when to tell you that you're wrong. And there is absolutely nothing more in this world that you hate more than telling your best friend that she was right and you were wrong.

Thank you for pushing me to go outside my comfort zone.

They say that life is an adventure with your best friend and, boy, they are right. Imagine all the new places, all the new foods, and all the new opportunities you've gotten to experience with your best friend. Now think of all the new places, all the new foods, and all the opportunities you wouldn't have gotten to experience if it weren't for your best friend encouraging you to expand your sense of comfort. Best friends are meant to culture you, and to teach you little things about living life to the fullest. There have been some seriously crazy times together, but it would't have been the same without your other half by your side.

Thank you for capturing all of our memories.

Speaking of seriously crazy times together, thanks to your best friend, you will always get to look back on insane nights because of all the pictures she took. Whether it be a picture of you after the bar, or a video of you when you think she's not looking, your best friend always seems to capture the best, and worst, moments. Thank God.

Best friends are our other halves. They know everything about us, and they have some serious dirt on us, but our secrets are safe with them. Life just wouldn't be the same without the only one sane enough to call us their "best" friend.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.

I was asked so many times why I wanted to go to a small school when a big university is so much better. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure a big university is great but I absolutely love going to a small school. I know that I miss out on big sporting events and having people actually know where it is. I can't even count how many times I've been asked where it is and I know they won't know so I just say "somewhere in the middle of Wisconsin." But, I get to know most people at my school and I know my professors very well. Not to mention, being able to walk to the other side of campus in 5 minutes at a casual walking pace. I am so happy I made the decision to go to school where I did. I love my school and these are just a few reasons why.
